M <br />1 <br />August 9, 1971. <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works and Safety convened at 9:30 <br />A.M. on August 9, 1971, with all members present. The minutes of the <br />previous meeting were reviewed and approved. <br />BIDS FOR SALT OPENED <br />This being the date set for receiving bids for 8500 tons of sodium chloride <br />(salt) the Clerk tendered proofs of publication in the South Bend Tribune <br />and the Tri County News on July 30 and August,6, 1971, which were read and <br />found to be sufficient. The following bids were received: <br />Cargill, Inc., Cargill Building, Minneapolis, Minnesota, 55402. The bid <br />_was accompanied by a non collusion affidavit which was found to be proper, <br />together with certified check in the amount of $2,500.00. The bid was as <br />follows: <br />8500 tons sodium chloride (rock salt) f.o.b. South Bend. <br />Truck transport in 20 ton loads. <br />@ $13.80 per ton - total $117,300.00. <br />Diamond Crystal Salt Co., 916 S. Riverside Avenue, St. Clair, Michigan, 48079. <br />The bid was accompanied by a non collusion affidavit which was found to be <br />proper, together with certified check in the amount of $10,880.00. The bid <br />was as follows: <br />8500 tons sodium chloride (rock salt) f.o.b. South Bend. <br />Truck transport in 20 ton loads. <br />@ $12.80 per ton - total $108,800.00. <br />International Salt Company, Clarks Summit, Pennsylvania, k8411. The bid <br />was accompanied by a non collusion affidavit which was found to be proper, <br />together with certified check in the amount of $10,880.00. The bid was as <br />follows: <br />8500 tons Sterling "CC" ice and snow removal rock salt. <br />Truck delivery f.o.b. South Bend. <br />@ $12.80 per ton - Total $108,800.00. <br />Morton Salt Co., 10335 Flora Street, Detroit, Michigan, 48209. The bid was <br />accompanied by a non collusion affidavit which was found to be proper, to- <br />gether with a bid bond in the amount of $16,320.00. The bid was as follows: <br />8500 tons rock safe-T-salt f.o.b. South Bend. <br />Truck transport loads of 21 tons. <br />@ $11.80 per ton - total $100,300.00. <br />Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the bids were referred <br />to the Purchasing Department for review and recommendation to the Board. <br />FIRE DEPARTMENT - FIRE HYDRANT S. IRONWOOD DRIVE <br />Upon motion made, seconded and <br />installation of a fire hydrant <br />Drive as requested by the Fire <br />Commissioners. <br />FIRE DEPARTMENT - PROMOTION <br />unanimously carried, the Board approved the <br />at the south boundary of 2515 S. Ironwood <br />Department and approved by the Board of Water <br />Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the Board approved the <br />promotion of fireman Ervin J. Machowiak to the rank of engineer, effective <br />August 1, 1971, as recommended by Fire Chief Joseph L. Zurat. <br />POLICE DEPARTMENT - DAILY REPORTS , <br />Daily offense summary reports for July 30, July 31 and August 1, 1971, were <br />reviewed by the Board and ordered filed. <br />
