<br />POLICE DEPARTMENT - REQUEST TO ATTEND FBI SESSION, WASHINGTON, D.C.
<br />Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the Board approved the
<br />request of Chief of Police Loren M. Bussert for Assistant Chief of Police
<br />Kenneth E. McDonald to attend the 88th session of the FBI National Academy
<br />commencing August 16-, 1971, for a period of 12 weeks. in Washington, D. C.
<br />POLICE DEPARTMENT - SPECIAL POLICE COMMISSION - ALBERT W. WRIGHT
<br />Albert W. Wright appeared before the Board for clarification of requirements
<br />for appointment as a special police officer, stating he is required to carry
<br />a gun in his employment at Robert Hall Clothes and it was his understanding
<br />that in such case he must be a special police officer. It was explained to
<br />Mr. Wright that a special police commission is not necessarily warranted
<br />because an employee is required to carry a gun, and that due to recent change
<br />In the law affecting special police officers special police commissions are
<br />being issued only where necessary.
<br />POLICE DEPARTMENT - APPLICATIONS FOR SPECIAL POLICE COMMISSION
<br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the applications of Stanley Lee Plump,
<br />as an employee of the South Bend Housing Authority, and Magdalene Scott, as
<br />an employee of Robertson's Store, were referred to the City Attorney for review
<br />and recommendation; also the application of William 1. Dreibelbis, as an
<br />employee of the South Bend Tribune,
<br />BUILDING DEPARTMENT - SUB -STANDARDS DIVISION
<br />Richard Liszewski, Sub -Standards Director, appeared before the Board and the
<br />following matters were taken up.
<br />125 E. Keasey Street. Roscoe Claxton, owner, and William Leggett, 827 Rush
<br />Street, South Bend, Indiana, land contract buyer, appeared before the Board.
<br />Mr. Leggett stated he is in the process of cleaning up the premises. Upon motion
<br />made, seconded and carried, the matter of 125 E. Keasey Street was continued
<br />one week to permit the land contract buyer to clean up the premises.
<br />Lot 24, Elder Street. Neither Grant Lewis nor J. W. and Georgia Howard appeared
<br />as requested. Mail addressed to J. W. and Georgia Howard at 2716 N. 17th
<br />Street, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, their last known address, was returned with the
<br />notation "moved, left no address." Upon motion made, seconded and carried,
<br />the Sub -Standards Director was authorized to seek bids for the cleaning up
<br />of Lot 24 on Elder Street and the partially demolished accessory building.
<br />1528-1530 S. Magnolia Street. Mr. Liszewski reported this property has been
<br />taken down by the owner.
<br />724 Victoria Street. Mr. Liszewski reported this accessory building has been
<br />torn down by the owners.
<br />325 S. Taylor Street. Mrs. Frank DeFreese, 315 S. Taylor Street and Mrs. Marie
<br />Wyatt, 205 S. Taylor Street, South Bend, Indiana, appeared before the Board and
<br />complained of the condition of the property at 325 S. Taylor Street. Mrs.
<br />David Whitman, 1905 S. Chapin Street, South Bend, Indiana, also complained of
<br />several dogs on the premises. Mr. Liszewski reported the occupant has moved
<br />and the property is to be demolished.
<br />PURCHASING DEPARTMENT - REQUEST TO ADVERTISE FOR SALT BIDS
<br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board approved the request of the
<br />Purchasing Department to advertise for salt bids for the 1971-1972 winter
<br />season. August 91971, was set as the time for receiving bids and the Clerk
<br />was directed to give notice by publication in the South Bend Tribune and the
<br />Tri County News on July 30 and'August 6, 1971.
<br />LAGOON A, PONSHA AND 33RD STREETS - AREA PLAN COMMISSION RECOMMENDATION
<br />Area Plan Commission files with the Board its recommendation for the vacation
<br />of portions of Ponsha and 33rd Streets.
