<br />Maurice E. Schwartz, 725 Park Avenue, South Bend, Indiana, read a letter on
<br />behalf of the Park Avenue Neighborhood Association, interested in preserving
<br />the historic atmosphere of the neighborhood in the vicinity of Park, Riverside
<br />Drive, Portage, Madison and Michigan Streets, which was ordered filed..
<br />PENN CENTRAL RAILROAD CROSSINGS
<br />Penn Central Railroad, by C. R. Spence, Superintendent, having proposed the
<br />closing of the Vernon Street and Caroline Street railroad crossings on the
<br />Penn Central double track main line and the matter having been reviewed by the
<br />Traffic Engineering Department and the Area Plan Commission and recommended
<br />favorably, upon motion made, seconded and carried, the matter was referred to
<br />the Engineering Department for the preparation of appropriate resolutions for
<br />the vacation,-= of portions of Vernon and Caroline Streets crossing the Penn
<br />Central Railroad double track main line.
<br />COMPLAINT OF FREDERICK K. BAER - CURB DAMAGE
<br />The complaint of Frederick K. Baer, 502 First Bank Building, South Bend,
<br />Indiana, of damage to the curbing in front of his home was referred to the
<br />Legal Department for reply.
<br />REQUEST TO CLOSE N. ADAMS STREET FOR BLOCK PARTY
<br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the request of Mrs. Brian M. Boulac,
<br />1737 N. Adams Street, South Bend, Indiana, to close N. Adams Street from
<br />Marquette to Keller Street, between the hours of 6:00 P.M. and midnight on
<br />July 2, 1971, was approved for a block party.
<br />REQUEST TO HOLD BICYCLE PARADE - SCOTSDALE COMMUNITY CLUB
<br />Upon motion made, seconded 'and carried, the request of the Scottsdale
<br />Community Club, by Steven R. Herczeg, 4802 S. York Road, South Bend,.indiana
<br />to hold a bicycle parade on July'5, 1971, at 11:30 A.M. and lasting
<br />approximately one half hour was approved. The Board also granted permission
<br />for a squad car and motorcycle police to be present in the area during the
<br />parade.
<br />REQUEST TO CLOSE ALLEY FOR PICNIC - WILLIAM PENN FRATERNAL ASSOCIATION
<br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board approved the closing of
<br />the alleys adjoining the William Penn Fraternal Association Club House at
<br />1024 W. Indiana Avenue for its annual picnic at 12;00 noon on July 17, 1971,
<br />and granted permission for the alleys to be graded.'
<br />OLD FIRE STATION #10 (1820 S. MICHIGAN STREET)
<br />A communication from Dr. Wesley E. Brashares, Broadway Community Center,
<br />1412 S. Carroll Street, South Bend, Indiana, suggesting the old fire station
<br />#10 at 1820 S. Michigan Street be used for a recreation center for teen-age
<br />youths was referred to the Human Relations and. Fair Employment Practices
<br />Commission for study and recommendation.
<br />LETTER FROM JO HN H. BRICHETTO
<br />A letter from John H. Brichetto, 3615 Circle Lake Drive, Knoxville, Tennessee,
<br />under date of June 25, 1971, in reference to a 1956 Studebaker Champion
<br />automobile to be presented to the City of South Bend was read and ordered
<br />filed.
<br />STREET LIGHT REQUEST - TOPSFIELD ADDITION
<br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the request of Topsfield Development Corporation
<br />for street lighting on Topswood Lane and Topsfield Road was referred to the
<br />Traffic Engineering Department for study and recommendation.
<br />TRAFFIC SIGNAL -K-MART, MICHIGAN AND IRELAND
<br />A letter from S. S. Kresge Company, Detroit, Michigan in reference to the '
<br />installation of a traffic signal at the K-Mart location, Michigan and Ireland
<br />Road, was referred to the Traffic Engineering Department.
