June 21, 1971. <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works and Safety convened at 9:30 <br />A.M. on June 21, 1,971. Present were S. J. Crumpacker, City Attorney, and <br />James A. Bickel, City Controller. Mr. Crumpacker acted as chairman of the <br />meeting. Minutes of previous meetings were reviewed and approved. <br />FIRE DEPARTMENT - APPLICATIONS <br />The following applications for appointment to the South Bend Fire Department <br />were filed with the Board and referred to the Personnel Director for review <br />and further processing; <br />James David Brom <br />Vernon Wayne Doyle <br />Steven David Varro <br />POLICE DEPARTMENT - APPLICATIONS <br />The application of Jack Dean Roe for appointment to the South Bend Police De- <br />partment was filed with the Board and referred to the Personnel Director for <br />further processing., <br />POLICE DEPARTMENT - STATISTICAL REPORT <br />Statistical report of the Police Department for May, 1971, was reviewed and <br />ordered filed. <br />UNIFORM BIDS - FIRE AND POLICE DEPARTMENTS <br />The City Controller advised receiving from the Indiana State Board of Accounts its <br />opinion that a contract for the purchase of uniforms for the Fire and Police <br />Departments is based on annual requirements and cannot be extended beyond the <br />one year period. <br />BUILDING DEPARTMENT - SUB -STANDARD DIVISION <br />Richard Liszewski, Sub -Standards Director, appeared before the Board and the <br />following matters were taken up: <br />510 S. Taylor Street. This being the date set for receiving bids for demolition <br />of the structure at 510 S. Taylor Street, Mr. Liszewski tendered the bid of <br />Midwest Demolition Company which was the only bid received. Non collusion affi- <br />davit was found to be proper. The bid was in the amount of $572.00. <br />The bid, appearing to be reasonable, the motion was made, seconded and carried <br />to award contract for demolition of the structure at 510 S. Taylor Street to <br />Midwest Demolition Company on its bid of $572.00. <br />305 E. Wenger Street. Mr. Liszewski reported the owner, Alonzo Johnson, has <br />failed to rehabilitate this property, and asked permission to proceed with <br />demolition under the low bid received June 22, 1970, being the Midwest Demolition <br />Company at $587.00. <br />Mr. Sturgil of the Midwest Demolition Company was present and stated they would <br />be willing to demolish the structure under their bid of $587.00 on June 22, 1970. <br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, contract for demolition of the structure <br />at 305 E. Wenger Street, awarded to Midwest Demolition Company April 12, 1971, <br />on its bid June 22, 1970 of $587.00 was exercised and the structure ordered <br />demolished. <br />1101 S. Carroll Street. Mr. Liszewski reported this property twice recently <br />has sustained damage by fire and asked permission to demolish the same as an <br />emergency matter. Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Sub -Standards <br />Director was authorized to seek bids for demolition of the structure at 1101 S. <br />Carroll Street. <br />724 S. Clinton Street. The owners being willing for this property to be de- <br />molished by the City, the motion was made, seconded and carried, to authorize <br />the Sub -Standards Director to seek bids for demolition of the structure at <br />724 S. Clinton Street, <br />1 <br />1 <br />1114 S. Carroll Street. Mr. Liszewski reported this property has sustained <br />damage by fire on five occasions and asked permission to demolish the same as <br />
