REGULAR MEETING NOVEMBER 6, 1973
at Michigan and North Shore concerning speed and school children safety.
A preliminary investigation was made and it was found that there are
regulation school crossing signs in place and the intersection is protected
by pedestrian signals and also a police guard and patrol boys are assigned there.
The approaches on Michigan could be further improved by installation of a
flasher type sign indicating speed reduction when flashing and when children
are present. Since this is a State Highway, recommendations will be made to
the State Highway Commission. However, because of shortage of funds until
1974, installation could not be made until then if approved by the State.
Speeding violations are evident and motorists and especially trucks were
observed running the red traffic signal. This is strictly an enforcement
matter and the Police Department should be so".informed.
Further studies will be made by this Bureau.
Miss Virginia Guthrie of the Civic Planning Association told the Board that she
had inspected this intersection and noticed a lot of weeds at the north end of
the bridge and said this might be creating a problem. Upon motion made, seconded
and carried, the Board filed the recommendation and referred the matter back to
the Bureau of Traffic and Lighting for further study.. The Police Department will
be notified asking for cooperation in enforcing traffic regulations at the inter-
section and the Street Department will be requested to cut any weeds or undergrowth.
