REGULAR MEETING NOVEMBER 5, 1973 <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works was convened at 9:30 a.m, on <br />Monday, November 5, 1973 at 9:30 a.m. with all members present. City Attorney <br />James A. Roemer was also present. Minutes of the previous meeting were reviewed <br />and approved. <br />OPENING OF BIDS - LIQUID CALCIUM CHLORIDE <br />This being the date set for receiving bids for Liquid Calcium Chloride for the <br />Bureau of Streets, the following bids were opened and publicly read. The Clerk <br />tendered proofs of publication of notice in the Tri-County News and the South <br />Bend Tribune which were found to be sufficient. <br />Michigan Chemical Company Bid was signed by Robert Mayes, non - <br />collusion affidavit was in order and <br />Bid - $11,400.00 a Certified Check in the amount of <br />10% accompanied the bid. <br />Dow Chemical Company Bid was signed by R. B. Korsmeier, <br />non -collusion affidavit was in order <br />Bid - $10,690.00 and a 10% bid bond accompanied the bid. <br />a <br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the bids were referred to the Bureau <br />%} of Streets for review and recommendation. <br />V <br />PUBLIC HEARING - VACATION RESOLUTION NO. 3384, 1973 <br />This being the date set, hearing was -held on Vacation Resolution No. 3384, 1973 <br />for the vacation of the portion of the north -south alley between St. Peter Street <br />and Notre Dame Street which extends from the south line of the Grand Trunk <br />Western Railroad Company right-of-way to the north line of the Grand Trunk <br />Western Railroad Company right-of-way. <br />Also, the portion of the north -south alley between St. Louis Street and St. <br />Peter Street which lies between the south line of the Grand Trunk Western <br />Railroad Company right-of-way and the south line of the first east -west alley <br />south of Wayne Street. <br />No remonstrators having appeared and no written remonstrances having been filed, <br />upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board ratified and confirmed Vacation <br />Resolution No. 3384, 1973 and said alley is vacated. <br />The City Engineer•is directed to prepare an assessment roll showing the award <br />of damages and the assessment of benefits to the surrounding properties. <br />PUBLIC HEARING - VACATION RESOLUTION NO. 3385, 1973 <br />This being the date set, hearing was held on Vacation Resolution No. 3385, 1973 <br />for the vacation of Kerr Street, beginning at the west right-of-way line of <br />Catalpa Street and the north right-of-way line of Kerr Street, thence west to the <br />western end of Kerr Street;.thence 50' south to the south right-of-way of Kerr <br />Street; thence east to a point 50' south of point of beginning; thence 50' north <br />to the point of beginning. <br />James Nafe, Attorney for the petitioner Curtis Crofoot, was present and informed <br />the Board that Mr. Crofoot owns all the real estate east, north and south of the <br />subject alley with the exception of a small parcel of real estate on the south <br />line of Kerr. The owner has no objection to the vacation. Mr. Frank Harris, <br />1007 Chapin Street, was present and questioned the Board about an alley east of <br />Parcel 5. The Board explained to Mr. Harris that this alley was not involved in <br />the proposed vacation today and displayed the engineer's drawing. After the <br />explanation, Mr. Harris indicated that he had no objections to the proposed <br />vacation. Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board ratified and <br />confirmed Vacation Resolution No. 3385 and said part°iron of Kerr Street is vacated. <br />The City Engineer is directed to prepare an assessment roll showing the award <br />of damages and the assessment of benefits to the surrounding properties. <br />IMPROVEMENT RESOLUTION NO. 3382, 1973 - MEADOWVIEW SEWERS <br />This was the date set for receiving written comments or remonstrances on the <br />
