REGULAR MEETING OCTOBER 22, 1973 <br />REQUEST TO SOLICIT FUNDS FOR ISRAEL <br />Rabbi Victor Amster and Mr. Nathan Lerman appeared before the Board to request <br />permission to solicit funds for the Jewish Agency, Magen David Adom, which is the <br />equivalent of the Red Cross. They are going to ask young people to collect <br />donations from the public, both on the street and house to house. All money <br />collected will be sent to Israel to be used for ambulances and for blood plasma <br />kits. They have made application to the Charitable Solications Commission and will <br />go before that Commission this morning. Upon motion made, seconded and carried, <br />the Board approved the request and wished them success in their fund-raising attempt. <br />APPROVAL OF BONDS <br />The Board received a favorable recommendation from Ray S. Andrysiak, Bureau of <br />Engineering, for Contractor's Bonds for: <br />Keith Slabaugh d/b/a Ast-ro Construction Co. - to 10/23/74 <br />Robert D. Reed d/b/a-Reed Electric Co. - to 10/18/74 <br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board approved the bonds to the dates <br />e-t listed above. <br />O <br />CHANGE ORDERS - BENDIX DRIVE IMPROVEMENT PROJECT R & s 49 <br />Q <br />VThe Board received two Change Orders for Project R & S 49, Bendix Drive Improvements <br />from McIntyre and Jones Construction Company. The Change Orders increased the <br />contract by $1,484.31 and $4,154.50, for adjustments to quantities to reflect <br />as -built measurements and for items added to complete work as per the intent of <br />the contract. Mr. Farrand indicated that these will be the final change orders <br />on this project. Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board approved the <br />change orders. <br />UNION CONTRACT SIGNED - BUREAUS OF STREETS MUNICIPAL SERVICES CEMETERIES TRAFFIC <br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board approved and executed a Memorandum <br />of Understanding between the Board of Public Works on behalf of the Civil City of <br />South Bend and Teamsters, Chaffeurs, Warehousemen and Helpers of America, Local <br />Union No. 364 representing members of the Bureaus of Streets, Municipal Services, <br />Cemeteries and Traffic. The Agreement shall be in effect to and including April <br />30, 1976 and is on file in the Office of the Board of Public Works. <br />STREET LIGHT OUTAGE REPORT FILED <br />The Street Light Outage report for the period of October 15 through October 19, 1973 <br />was received and ordered filed. <br />APPROVAL OF INSTALLATION OF STREET LIGHTS <br />The Board received the following recommendations from the Bureau of Traffic and <br />Lighting for the installation of street lights: <br />A. A light on Longley, west of Brookfield and on Brookfield at the <br />alley north of Longley. <br />Install 2 - 7,000L MV OH WP (0) $7.50/mo. or $90.00/yr. <br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the installation was approved. <br />B. Portage, from Lathrop to Boland, relighted and modernized. <br />Install 18 - 7,000L MV OH WP C@ $2.75 67.50 <br />2-20,000L MV OH WP $5.50 11.00 <br />1-20,000L MV OH WP $5.35 5.35 <br />Remove 8 - 6,000L INC OH WP C@ $3.20 25.60 <br />Cost - $58.25/mo. or $699,00/yr. <br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the installations were approved. <br />
