.355
REGULAR MEETING SEPTEM'BER 10, 1973
RECOMMENDATION ON ENTRANCE TO LOT AT JEFFERSON BRIDGE APPROACH
The Board received the following recommendation:
TO: Board of Public Works
From: Clem Hazinski, Manager, Bureau of.Traffic and Lighting
Subject: Entrance to Lot at Jefferson Bridge Approach
A report by the Department of Redevelopment to the Board of Works on August
27, 1973 stated that the entrance to the parking lot northeast of the Royal
Inn, from a point just west of'the Jefferson Boulevard Bridge, is in use and
could possibly be used further as a haul road in -conjunction with the present
cut on Monroe Street just east of Columbia.
After investigation of the area by Mr. Rollin Farrand, Mr. William Slabaugh
and myself, it was concluded that an access point to the lot be constructed
on the east side of Columbia Street midway between Western Avenue and Monroe
Street.
Upon completion of construction of this access, it is recommended.that the
entrance on Jefferson, just west of the Bridge, and the entrance on East
Monroe Street be closed. Both of these entrances are hazardous and will
become worse as winter weather approaches.
Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the recommendation was approved.
STORE AT CORNER OF OLIVE AND ELWOOD
The Board received the following report on the business being operated at the
corner of Olive and Elwood:
September 7, 1973
To: Board of Public Works
From: Clem Hazinski, Manager, Bureau of Traffic and Lighting
Subject: Store on the Corner of Olive and Elwood
In October of 1971, a plan to construct a building and certain aceess
points to a paved parking lot (as required by City Ordinance) was approved
by the City Engineering Department. The building was subsequently
erected by Mr. Edward Szczesniak at 2318 West Elwood to be used as a
retail store.
Since the building was erected and opened for business, there has been
no compliance to City requirements.
Inspection on September 6, 1973 revealed that only one driveway had. been,
constructed; the tree stumps have not been removed; there is no drywell
for drainage; the lot has not been paved (dusty conditions result) and
because no access has been installed according to the plan, vehicles are
driving over the sidewalk and curb onto Olive Street tracking gravel and
dirt from the unpaved lot onto the sidewalk and street.
Attached are copies of correspondence and Board action since July, 1972
in chronological order. It is recommended that the Legal Department take
proper action to correct this situation.
This matter has been before the Board several times. Upon motion made, seconded
and carried, Mr. Hazinski's report was accepted and referred to James A. Roemer,
City Attorney, for action necessary to obtain compliance with City ordinances.
RECOMMENDATION FOR INSTALLATION OF STREET LIGHTS
The Board received the following recommendations from the Bureau of Traffic and
Lighting in regard to street light installations:
1. 900 E. Fairview. Install a 7;000L'MV OH WP @ $3.75/mo. or $45.00/yr.
Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the installation was approved.
