REGULAR MEETING
SEPTEMBER 10, 1973
A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works was convened at 9:30 a.m. on
Monday, September 10, 1973 with all members present. City Attorney James A.
Roemer was also present. Minutes of the previous meeting were reviewed and
approved.
HEARING ON ASSESSMENT ROLL - VACATION RESOLUTION NO. 3380, 1973
This being the date set for holding a hearing on the Assessment Roll for
Vacation Resolution No. 3380, 1973, hearing was held for the vacation of the
North -South alley between Sunnyside Avenue and Twyckenham Avenue from the south
right-of-way line of East Wayne Street South to the north right-of-way line of
the East-West alley between East Wayne Street South and Sunnymede Avenue
situated between Lots 164 and 165 in Sunnymede }st Addition.
The Clerk tendered proofs of publication of notice in the South Bend Tribune
and the Tri-County News on August 10,. 17 and 24, 1973 and they were found to
be sufficient.
No remonstrators appeared and no written remonstrances having been received,
upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Assessment Roll showing no net
damages and no net benefits was approved as adopted and said Resolution is in
all things ratified and confirmed and said proceedings closed.
LETTER FROM COUNCILMAN SZYMKOWIAK REGARDING POSTING OF SPEED LIMITS
The Board received the following letter:
September 6, 1973
Board of Public Works
County -City Building
South Bend, Indiana 46601
Gentlemen:
I feel there is a great need for the installation of city speed
limit signs (20 m.p.h., not to exceed 30 m.p.h.), if possible, on the
following streets:
North Johanson Street from Linden to Lincolnway West
North Brookfield between Linden and Lincolnway West
North Olive from Washington to Lincolnway West
West Linden from Walnut to Olive
Bertrand from Olive to Johnson
Kenwood from Olive to Johnson
Roger from Olive to Johnson
College from Washington to Lincolnway West
I also recommend and I feel it is necesssry that truck signs be
posted to prohibit heavy truck traffic on North Sheridan from Ardmore
Trail to Lincolnway West. The reason for that is the streets are not
built for that type of weight. Also, for safety reasons, there is a
school in the area.
Your full cooperation will be appreciated.
Yours truly,
s/ Walter M. Szymkowiak
Second District Councilman
Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board referred the request to the
Bureau of Traffic and Lighting for investigation and report.
1
1
