344 <br />REGULAR MEETING AUGUST 27,1973 <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works convened at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, <br />August 27, 1973 with all members present. City Attorney James A. Roemer was also <br />present. Minutes of the previous meeting were reviewed and approved. <br />OPENING OF BIDS - SALE OF CITY OWNED PROPERTY <br />This was the date set for receiving bids for the Sale of city -owned property at <br />917 N. Hill Street, 1134 E. Cedar Street and 1230 W. Colfax Avenue. The Clerk <br />tendered proofs of publication in the South Bend Tribune and the Tri-County News <br />which were found to be sufficient. The following bids were opened and read. <br />917 N, Hill Street. A bid from Builder's United Enterprises, Inc.,Charles <br />Howell, President, in the amount of $1315,00._ <br />1134 E. Cedar Street. A bid from Builder's United Enterprises, Inc., Charles <br />Howell, President, in the amount of $1515.00. <br />Both bids were more than the offering price for the properties. Upon motion made, <br />seconded and carried, the Board accepted the bids and directed that the Legal Depart- <br />ment be notified to prepare the deeds for completion of the transaction. <br />DEPARTMENT OF REDEVELOPMENT - REQUEST FOR PAYMENT OF TRAVEL EXPENSES <br />The Board received claims for hotel and travel expenses for a candidate being <br />interviewed for Director of the Civic Center. Claims were in the amount of $156.60 <br />and $44.16. Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board approved the claims <br />for payment. <br />LEASE - SURFACE PARKING LOT - DEPARTMENT OF REDEVELOPMENT <br />A lease for a 20 acre site near the river, which is owned by the Department of <br />Redevelopment, was presented to the Board. The site is being leased to the City <br />on a month to month basis for use as a surface parking lot. City Attorney James <br />A. Roemer reviewed the lease and recommended approval. Upon motion made, <br />seconded and carried, the Board signed the lease. <br />CONDITION AT ENTRANCE TO REDEVELOPMENT LOT NEAR JEFFERSON BRIDGE <br />Erica Martinek of the Department of Redevelopment called to the attention of the <br />Board a dangerous traffic condition at the entrance to the lot owned by the_ <br />Department of Redevelopment at the entrance to the Jefferson Street Bridge, North- <br />east of the Royal Inn. Mr. Farrand said he was aware of the condition and suggested <br />that the matter be referred to the Department of Public Works for investigation. <br />AWARDING OF BID - BUREAU OF FIRE UNIFORMS <br />The Board received a recommendation from Assistant Chief Joseph V. Nagy that the <br />bid of the Gerber Manufacturing Company for 1974 Bureau of Fire Uniforms be <br />accepted. Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board awarded the bid to <br />the Gerber Manufacturing Company. <br />RECOMMENDATION FOR GUIDELINES FOR WALKATHONS <br />The Board received the following report from Clem Hazinski, Manager of the Bureau <br />of Traffic and Lighting. <br />Board of Public Works <br />From: Bureau of Traffic and Lighting, Clem Hazinski, Manager <br />Meeting: Reference Walkathons <br />At the direction of the Board of Works a meeting was held on August 3, <br />1973 at 2 P.M. reference Walkathons and problems concerning them.
