1304 <br />REGULAR MEETING JULY 9, 1973 <br />Since Michigan Street ,is closed and there are no demands or needs <br />for turns westbound on Western, the pattern that is being voluntarily <br />used by the public will result in safer movements. <br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board approved the recommendation. <br />LETTER FROM MRS. JANE SWAN RE: NATIONAL GUARD ARMORY PROPERTY <br />The Board received a letter from Mrs. Jane Swan, 2022 Swygart.Street, regarding <br />high weeds at the National Guard Armory property at 1901 Kemble Avenue. This <br />matter was brought to the attention of the Board at last week's meeting. Mr. <br />Seitz reported that he had contacted Captain Zimmerman at the Armory. Captain <br />Zimmerman feels there is some doubt as to whose responsibility it is to cut <br />the weeds. The Board determined that it was the armory's responsibility to see <br />that the weeds are cut and, upon motion made, seconded and carried, directed <br />that Captain Zimmerman be notified that the Board will give them five days to <br />cut the -weeds or the City will cut them and bill the National Guard. <br />DISCUSSION ON PENN CENTRAL RAILROAD CROSSINGS <br />Mrs. Jane Swan, 2022 Swygart Street, called the attention of the Board to the <br />bad condition of the Penn Central Railroad Crossings in the City, particularly <br />at Ewing Avenue and at Prairie Avenue. There had been an agreement with the <br />Railroad that, when repairs were needed immediately, the Street Department <br />would make them and bill the railroad. However, the last bill for payment <br />for repairs was returned by Penn Central unpaid. The Board directed that a <br />memo be Sent to Donald Decker, Manager, Bureau of Streets, asking him for a <br />report on the condition of the crossings, the estimated cost of repairs, and <br />the status of any outstanding bills sent to the Railroad. <br />CERTIFICATE OF INSURANCE APPROVED - NORTH AMERICAN SIGNS <br />The Board received a recommendation from James A. Roemer, City Attorney, that <br />he had reviewed the Certificate of Insurance filed with the Board by North <br />American Signs, South Bend Neon Company, and found it to be in order. Upon <br />motion made, seconded and carried, the Board approved the certificate. <br />APPROVAL OF CHANGES IN TOPICS Moo (6) PROJECT <br />The Board received the following changes in Topics T6000 (6) Project: <br />Concrete Pavement <br />Increased <br />$157.85 <br />Sodding <br />Increased <br />$479.40 <br />Signal Cable <br />Increased <br />33.35 <br />Concrete Sidewalks <br />Decreased <br />316.20 <br />Contraction Joint <br />Increased <br />138.04 <br />Concrete Walk <br />Increased <br />139.20 <br />B Borrow <br />Decreased <br />532.25 <br />The changes are in the Contract with Arco Engineering Construction Company. <br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board approved and signed the changes. <br />APPROVAL OF CONTRACTOR'S BONDS <br />Approval of the following Contractor's Bonds was recommended by the Bureau <br />of Engineering and, upon --.motion made, seconded and carried, the Board approved <br />them to the dates listed: <br />Ronald Dhaeze - Contractor's Bond to 7/2/74 <br />Jay A. Kretchmer - Contractor's Bond to 12/31/73 <br />David Scott - Contractor's Bond to 6/4/74 <br />Engle Construction Company - Contractor's Bond to 5/19/74 <br />Kenneth Story - Contractor's Bond to 6/15/74 <br />REPORT ON DERRICKSON & SONS CONSTRUCTION COMPANY <br />Mr. Farrand reported that Derrickson & Sons Construction Company have removed <br />the driveway at 1131 N. Twyckenham which was causing the problem with drainage <br />and have set up a meeting with Pat McMahon, Manager, Bureau of Construction <br />and Design to make the corrections needed. This matter will be discussed again <br />next week and, if they have complied to the satisfaction of the Bureau of <br />Engineering, the Board will consider the request to have their bond released. <br />1 <br />1 <br />
