REGULAR MEETING MAY 7, 1973 <br />REPORT ON MICHIANA WALK FOR DEVELOPMENT <br />The Board received a report from Mr. Clem Hazinski, Manager, Bureau of Traffic <br />and Lighting, that a meeting was held with the Michiana Walk -'for Development <br />representatives and a new route was established affecting South Bend only from <br />Potawatomi Park along Ironwood to Lincolnway East. Upon motion,made, seconded <br />and carried, the report was ordered filed. <br />REPORT ON HOPE CHAPEL OF GOD PARADE REQUEST <br />The Board received a report from Mr. Clem Hazinski, Manager, Bureau of Traffic <br />and Lighting, recommending that permission be granted for the Hope Chapel of <br />God to hold a parade on Saturday, June 9th at 100 p.m., providing proper <br />indemnification is given to the City and that police are notified. Upon motion, <br />made, seconded and carried, the parade was approved. <br />The Church had also requested that a portion of Dayton Street be used as a <br />playground for children in the 1200 block. Mr. Hazinski recommended that this <br />request be denied since this is a dangerous practice and the City Ordinance <br />no longer provides for play streets. Upon motion made,::seconded and carried, <br />the Board denied this request. <br />Q REPORT ON REQUEST OF VETERANS OF FOREIGN WARS TO SELL BUDDY POPPIES <br />V <br />V <br />The Board received a report from Mr. Clem Hazinski, Manager, Bureau of Traffic <br />and Lighting that there was no objection to the request from the V.F.W.-Post <br />1167 to sell poppies on the streets on May 18 and 19, 1973. Upon motion made, <br />seconded and carried,the Board approved therequest. <br />.REQUEST FROM.AMERICAN LEGION NO. 357 TO SELL POPPIES <br />The Board received a request from Mrs. Frank Florkowski, representing American <br />Legion Auxiliary, Pulaski Post 357, to sell poppies on the street on May 18 <br />and 19, 1973. Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board approved the <br />request. <br />PROTEST AGAINST PROPOSED BAN ON PARKING ON MIAMI STREET <br />The Board received a letter from Mrs. Virginia Umbaugh, 3824 Miami Road, in <br />which she registered a strong protest against the proposed banning of parking <br />on Miami Street. Mrs. Umbaugh's letter said that the ban would work a hardship <br />on residents of Miami Street. She also suggested that additional north -south <br />arterial streets be developed. Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the <br />letter was ordered filed. <br />REQUEST FOR APPROVAL OF TRAFFIC DEVICES <br />The Board received requests for the installation of the following traffic devices <br />from William J. Richardson, Director of Public Works, and -.Clem Hazinski, Manager, <br />Bureau of Traffic and Lighting: <br />1. Recommended installation of parking meters on the West side of the <br />300 and 400 blocks N. Lafayette. Upon motion made, seconded and <br />carried, the installation was approved. <br />2. Recommended installation of 15 Minute Parking Limit in front of <br />2010 Western Avenue (Sherman Cleaners) to provide for turnover of <br />parking space. Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board <br />approved the installation. <br />3. Recommended installation of 2 hour parking limit, 6:00 a.m. to <br />6:00 p.m., for blood donors only in the 200 Block of West Navarre <br />-at indented curb. Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the <br />installation was approved. <br />LETTER FROM PORTAGE PARK COMMITTEE <br />The Board received a letter from Mrs. Jean Sharp, Portage Park Committee, requesting <br />that the City Controller set up a special fund for the receipt of monies from leases <br />of city -owned properties in the East Bank area. It was'suggested that the money <br />could be used to construct a canoe portage around the South Bend Dam. <br />
