205 REGULAR MEETING APRIL 23, 1973 1 A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works convened at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, April 23, 1973 with all members present. Minutes of the previous meeting were reviewed and approved. BIDS - FIRE DEPARTMENT AMBULANCES This was the date set for receiving bids for two ambulances for the Fire Department. No bids were received. There was a discussion as to whether the ambulances could now be purchased or whether bidding would have to be re -advertised. Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the matter was referred to the Legal Department and they will report back to the Board. BIDS - R & S 51 SAMPLE STREET FROM MAYFLOWER TO GREENVIEW Bids for Project R & S 51, Sample Street from Mayflower to Greenview were opened and publicly read, the Clerk,having tendered proofs of publication of notice in the South Bend Tribune and the Tri-County News which were found to be sufficient. WALSH & KELLY 2015 Western Avenue South Bend, Indiana Amount of Bid - $207,188.75 ARCO ENGINEERING COMPANY 705 S. Beiger Street Mishawaka, Indiana Amount of Bid - $189,907.80 RIETH-RILEY CONSTRUCTION COMPANY P. 0. Box 775 South Bend, Indiana 46624 Amount of Bid - $172,845.40 The bid was signed by David G. Goodwin, non -collusion affidavit was found to be in order and a 5% bid bond accompanied the bid. The bid was signed by William D. Zirkle, non -collusion affidavit was found to be in order and a 5% bid bond accompanied the bid. The bid was signed by Chester L. Skwarcan, non -collusion affidavit was found to be in order and a 57o bid bond accompanied the bid. Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the bids were referred to the Bureau of Engineering for tabulation and report to the Board. LETTER FROM MAYOR MILLER RE: R & S 54 The Board received the following letter: April 23, 1973 Board of Public Works City of South Bend County -City Building South Bend, Indiana 46601 Gentlemen: After much discussion and investigation of the overall needs of Project R & S 54, North Lafayette Blvd., it is my recommendation that the traffic requirements can be accomplished by the elimination of parking. Sincerely, s/ Jerry J. Miller Mr. Richardson explained that in the discussions on this project, it was agreed that the same amount of traffic volume control could be accomplished by the elimination of parking on the street. Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board concurred with the Mayor's recommendation to eliminate the parking. The Clerk was directed to notify the members of the Common Council immediately since this matter is before the Council meeting tonight.
