205 <br />REGULAR MEETING <br />APRIL 23, 1973 <br />1 <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works convened at 9:30 a.m. on <br />Monday, April 23, 1973 with all members present. Minutes of the previous <br />meeting were reviewed and approved. <br />BIDS - FIRE DEPARTMENT AMBULANCES <br />This was the date set for receiving bids for two ambulances for the Fire <br />Department. No bids were received. There was a discussion as to whether the <br />ambulances could now be purchased or whether bidding would have to be re -advertised. <br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the matter was referred to the Legal <br />Department and they will report back to the Board. <br />BIDS - R & S 51 SAMPLE STREET FROM MAYFLOWER TO GREENVIEW <br />Bids for Project R & S 51, Sample Street from Mayflower to Greenview were opened <br />and publicly read, the Clerk,having tendered proofs of publication of notice in <br />the South Bend Tribune and the Tri-County News which were found to be sufficient. <br />WALSH & KELLY <br />2015 Western Avenue <br />South Bend, Indiana <br />Amount of Bid - $207,188.75 <br />ARCO ENGINEERING COMPANY <br />705 S. Beiger Street <br />Mishawaka, Indiana <br />Amount of Bid - $189,907.80 <br />RIETH-RILEY CONSTRUCTION COMPANY <br />P. 0. Box 775 <br />South Bend, Indiana 46624 <br />Amount of Bid - $172,845.40 <br />The bid was signed by David G. Goodwin, <br />non -collusion affidavit was found to <br />be in order and a 5% bid bond <br />accompanied the bid. <br />The bid was signed by William D. Zirkle, <br />non -collusion affidavit was found to be <br />in order and a 5% bid bond accompanied <br />the bid. <br />The bid was signed by Chester L. Skwarcan, <br />non -collusion affidavit was found to be <br />in order and a 57o bid bond accompanied <br />the bid. <br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the bids were referred to the Bureau of <br />Engineering for tabulation and report to the Board. <br />LETTER FROM MAYOR MILLER RE: R & S 54 <br />The Board received the following letter: <br />April 23, 1973 <br />Board of Public Works <br />City of South Bend <br />County -City Building <br />South Bend, Indiana 46601 <br />Gentlemen: <br />After much discussion and investigation of the overall needs <br />of Project R & S 54, North Lafayette Blvd., it is my recommendation <br />that the traffic requirements can be accomplished by the elimination <br />of parking. <br />Sincerely, <br />s/ Jerry J. Miller <br />Mr. Richardson explained that in the discussions on this project, it was agreed <br />that the same amount of traffic volume control could be accomplished by the <br />elimination of parking on the street. Upon motion made, seconded and carried, <br />the Board concurred with the Mayor's recommendation to eliminate the parking. <br />The Clerk was directed to notify the members of the Common Council immediately <br />since this matter is before the Council meeting tonight. <br />
