Walnut Street where a sub -standard building was demolished. Debris has
been removed from the lot but a part of the foundation is remaining and this
foundation can not be removed because it is acting as a:'reta:ining wall to prevent
the sidewalk and street from washing out. Thfs situation was brought to the
attention of the Board of Public Works by Councilman Walter Kopczynski and the
Board of Public Safety has requested that the Board of Works investigate the
problem. The Department of Public Works has had an engineering survey made
and started on the design for --reconstruction of the railroad crossing adjacent
to 514 S. Walnut. A check was made of the area and there are other vacant
buildings in the vicinity. If these buildings are torn down it will completely
change the type of design needed. Mr. Richardson requested that a memo be sent
to the Board of Safety requesting a schedule of demolition of other buildings in
the area so that plans can be finalized for the reconstruction project.
APPROVAL OF PLANS - KENSINGTON FARMS SEWER PROJECT
C Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board approved and signed plans for
U the Kensington Farms Sewer Project, authorized under Improvement Resolution No.
3373-1972. Upon motion made, seconded
and carried, the Board directed that Mr. Decker be asked to have the unit appraised
and submit the appraisal to the Board of Works for action next Monday. At that
time, the Board will authorize advertising for bids.
RECOMMENDATION - USED BITUMINOUS DISTRIBUTOR BID
The Board received a recommendation from Mr. Donald Decker, Manager, Bureau of
Streets, that the bid for the used bituminous distributor be awarded to the Reid -
Holcomb Company on their bid of $6,300.00. Upon motion made, seconded and carried,
the Board awarded the bid to Reid -Holcomb Company.
RECOMMENDATION - STREET MATERIALS BIDS
The Board received a recommendation from Mr. Donald Decker, Manager, Bureau of
Streets, that the Board accept all bids received for Street Materials as submitted.
Mr. Richardson explained that what Mr. Decker is asking is that all bids be
awarded and then the purchase can be made from the supplier at the lowest bid as
available. it has been found in the past that some items were not available from
a supplier when they were needed. This method was tried last year and was
successful. Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board approved Mr. Decker's
recommendation and awarded the bids.
WHITEFORD LEASING COMPANY
The Legal Department, at the request of the Board of Public Works, had notified
the Whiteford Leasing Company that they must present contracts for the paving of
their parking lot to alleviate problems caused in that area.
