REGULAR MEETING <br />APRIL 2, 1973 <br />BE IT RESOLVED, that the Board of Public Works of the City of South Bend <br />recommends to the LaPorte District, Indiana State Highway Commission <br />for the District's approval of the following: <br />SECTION I. That Main Street be designated as "One Way" south from <br />South Street to Chippewa Avenue, and also be designated as U. S. 31 <br />SECTION II. That Michigan Street, which is U.S. 31, be designated <br />as "One Way" north from Chippewa Avenue to Monroe Street where it <br />continues north on St. Joseph Street. <br />Section III. That the LaPorte District initiate the action, and <br />through resolution, recommend approval to the Indiana State <br />Highway Commission in Indianapolis. <br />BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS <br />OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND <br />s/ William J. Barcome <br />Member <br />ATTEST: <br />s/ Patricia DeClercq <br />Clerk <br />Dated this 2nd day of April, 1973. <br />The Clerk was directed to forward the resolution to the LaPorte District of <br />the Indiana State Highway Commission and to inform them that Mr. Seitz was <br />out of the City at the time of the meeting when the resolution was adopted <br />but that two members of the Board constitute a quorum for conducting legal <br />actions of the Board. <br />STREET LIGHT OUTAGE REPORT <br />The Street Light Outage Report for the week of 3/16 to 3/23 were received <br />and ordered filed. The Board questioned the reason for only three reports <br />being received and directed that Chief Urban be contacted to find out why there <br />were not more reports, with a copy of the inquiry to be sent to Mr. G. Patrick <br />Gallagher, Department of Safety. <br />REQUEST FOR BLOCK PARTY - 800 BLOCK OF NORTH NOTRE DAME AVENUE <br />The Board received a request from Mr. Joe De Lois for permission to hold a <br />Block Party on Saturday, April 7th in the 800 block of North Notre Dame Avenue. <br />The request was from members of the Notre Dame Senior Class. Mr. Richardson <br />stated that he had received the following memo from Mr. Clem Hazinski: <br />March 30, 1973 <br />To: William J. Richardson, P.E. <br />From: Bureau of Traffic and Lighting, Clem Hazinski, Manager <br />Subject: Closing 800 block N. Notre Dame for block party <br />Information has been received that a request to hold a block party in <br />the 800 block of Notre Dame Avenue sometime over the weekend of April 6, <br />7 or 8, 1973 will be submitted on April 2, 1973. <br />This is the block between South Bend Avenue and Corby. This street <br />reaches arterial proportions especially when events are held at the <br />Athletic and Convocation Center. Such request should be refused. Block <br />parties are ordinarily permitted only on local streets where traffic <br />problems do not exist when re-routing is necessary. <br />
