REGULAR MEETING MARCH 26, 1973 A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works convened at 9:30 a.m, on Monday, March 26, 1973 with all members present. Minutes of the last meeting were reviewed and approved. REQUEST FOR BIDS - USED BITUMINOUS DISTRIBUTOR The Board received a request from Mr. Donald Decker, Director, Bureau of Streets, to advertise for bids for one used bituminous distributor. Upon mot -ion, made, seconded and carried, the Board approved the request and directed the Clerk to advertise for bids on the 30th of March and the 6th of April, 1973 with bids to be received at 9:30 a.m, on April 9th. REQUEST FOR PARKING SPACES FOR DEPARTMENT OF''NAVY COMBAT ART TRAILER The Board received a letter from Capt. H. C. Overgaard, United States Naval Reserve, requesting permission to park a trailer on the East Side of Lafayette Street along side the County -City Building in conjunction with a display of combat art in the Lobby of the Building the week of June 12th to June 16th, 1973. Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board referred the request to Mr. Clem Hazinski, Manager, Bureau of Traffic and Lighting for r_4 investigation and report to the Board. O REQUEST FOR REPAIR OF ISLAND 4500 BLOCK OF YORK ROAD U t.) The Board received a letter from the Board of Directors of the Scottsdale Community Club asking whether the City can repair the island in front of their Club in the 4500 block of York Road. The island has deteriorated and the curb needs replacing, since motorists have driven over it. Mr. Richardson said he has inspected the island and it is in need of repair. Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the matter was referred to Mr. David Wells, Bureau of Administration and Design for investigation and report to the Board. LETTER FROM COUNCILMAN PARENT RE: ANGELA BOULEVARD HILL The following letter was received by the Board: March 20, 1973 Mr. William Richardson, P. E. Director of Department of Public Works County -City Building South Bend, Indiana 46601 Dear Bill: Thank you for your letter of March 9, 1973 in regard to the Angela Boulevard complaint which I filed with your office earlier. Since the Molnar complaint was filed, I have talked with other residents of the area in question and they, too, are very concerned for the safety of the children who walk up and down the Angela hilly curve on their way to and from school. In my own assessment, there is a need to take immediate action to install some type of "high curb" barrier on the North side of the Angela hilly curve in order to prevent cars from sliding onto the sidewalk whenever snow or rain falls. I do not think we can afford to wait for the planning and funding necessary to straighten out the Angela curve. A reasonable amount of money could afford immediate protection to the children who walk the area, and would also prevent cars from sustaining substantial property damage every time one hits the heavy barrier Northwest of the sidewalk. I suggest that the item in question is one which should be funded with federal revenue sharing funds.
