3/5/73
1
Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board accepted Mr. Decker's
recommendation and awarded the bid to Reid -Holcomb, Inc. subject to approval
by the Common Council of appropriation to purchase with Revenue Sharing money.
BIDS AWARDED - ASPHALT PAVER
The Board received the following letter:
Board of Public Works
City of South Bend
County -City Building
South Bend, Indiana 46601
Gentlemen:
February 28, 1973
Subject: Asphalt Paver
It is my recommendation that the bid for an asphalt paver be awarded to
State Equipment Company for (1) one new Barber Greene model SB-140 paver.
State Equipment Company's bid of $46,882.00 is $3,908.00 more than the Slaw
Knox paver and $1,199 more than the Cedarapids paver. However, I will attempt
to justify my recommending the Barber Greene Paver. The Barber Greene Paver
is fully within the requested specifications whereas the other two are not.
State Equipment Company has assured us delivery on the Barber Greene within 30
days after receipt of order. The Blaw Know delivery is the first week in July,
if order placed within one (1) week of bid date; and the Cedarpids is a 75 day
maximum delivery date. The Barber Greene Paver has the 18.00 x 25 16 ply
hydraflated pneumatic tires with a differential lockout which will give us
the positive traction we feel is necessary. In addition to this, the Barber
Greene has a weight of 31,000 pounds in comparison to 27,000 pounds for the
Cedarapids, and 25,720 for the Blaw Knox. This additional weight will further
enhance its traction capability as well as indicating it is a heavier built
machine throughout.
We have approximately $1,500 to $2,000 dollars worth of spare parts for
our old Barber Greene Paver which State Equipment has agreed to reimburse us
at approximately 10% of their original cost.
In view of the above differences in the three pavers, I believe the
additional cost will be more than returned in quality of machine and more
efficient operation.
Purchase being contingent upon South Bend Common Counci_k'`approval of
appropriation to purchase with Revenue Sharing monies
Respectfully yo rs,
/s Donald L. Deck`e
Street Commissioner
DLD:cb
Mr. Richardson asked Mr. Decker if State Equipment Company would reimburse the
City at 90%, or a 10% discount, of the original cost of the spare parts and
Mr. Decker said this was the case. Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the
Board accepted Mr. Decker's recommendation and awarded the bid to State
Equipment Company, which was not the low bid, on the basis of the earlier delivery
date and the agreement to reimburse the City for spare parts for the old paver
at 90% of their cost.
MEMO FROM BUREAU OF TRAFFIC AND LIGHTING RE: SIGNALIZATION'
The following memo was received from Mr. Clem Hazinski, Director, Bureau of
Traffic and Lighting:
TO: BOARD OF WORKS
FROM: BUREAU OF TRAFFIC & LIGHTING
RE: SIGNALIZATION
