U-8 <br />JANUARY 22, 1973 <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works and Safety convened at 9:30 <br />a.m. on Monday, January 22, 1973. All members were present. Minutes of the <br />last meeting were reviewed and approved. <br />FIRE DEPARTMENT Chief Bland was present at the meeting and matters pertaining <br />to his department were discussed. <br />The following letter was presented to the Board: <br />January 18, 1973 <br />Board of Public Works & Safety <br />13th Floor, County -City Building <br />South Bend, Indiana 46601 <br />Re: St. Joseph County Heart Association Drive <br />Honorable Board Members: <br />Attached you will find a letter from the St. Joseph County Heart Association <br />with regard to their annual drive. They are requesting permission to use Fire <br />Stations as drop points following the drive. <br />Please be advised that this office approves of this type of an arrangement; <br />however, we would like to make mention of the fact -that it is absolutely essential <br />that these kits be picked up as soon as possible after the drive. During one of <br />the last drives, and I would like to withhold the name of the organization for <br />the time being, we held the kits which contained money for approximately one <br />month after the drive was to have been over. Saal, St. Joseph County Heart Association <br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board accepted Chief Bland's <br />recommendation and granted permission for the St. Joseph County Heart <br />Association to use certain Fire Stations as drop points following their annual <br />drive. <br />POLICE DEPARTMENT - STATISTICAL REPORT FOR DECEMBER <br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Police Department Statistical Report <br />for the month of December was ordered filed. <br />APPLICATIONS FOR POLICE DEPARTMENT <br />Applications for the Police Department for Thomas H. Fautz, Rex J. Rakow and <br />Terry R. Young were filed with the Board and referred to the Personnel <br />Department. <br />BUREAU OF BUILDINGS - SUB -STANDARD DIVISION <br />Mr. Isaiah Steed, Sub -Standard Director, appeared before the Board and matters <br />pertaining to his department were discussed. <br />142 Birdsell Street Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board <br />authorized Mr. Steed to advertise for bids for the demolition of the structure <br />at 142 Birdsell Street. <br />
