December 18, 1972 <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works and Safety convened at 9:30 <br />A.M. on Monday, December 18, 1972. All members were present. Minutes of <br />the last meeting were read and approved. <br />GASOLINE BIDS AWARDED <br />The Board awarded the bid for gasoline and diesel fuel to the American Oil <br />Company at the following prices: <br />AMOCO Diesel Fuel (#1 Diesel Fuel) 13.15� Per Gallon <br />130,000 gallons or less -- <br />AMERICAN Diesel Fuel Z (#2 Diesel Fuel) 12.40� Per Gallon <br />130,000 gallons or less <br />AMERICAN Regular Gasoline or 12.90C Per Gallonr <br />AMOCO Lead Free Gasoline 13.9N Per Gallon <br />480,000 gallons or less - Truck Transport Deliveries <br />These prices are for a period from January 1, 1973 to December 31, 1973, <br />as per specifications. <br />FIRE DEPARTMENT <br />APPLICATIONS FOR FIRE DEPARTMENT <br />Applications for the Fire Department were received from Lon Allen Wingett <br />and Ricky Lynn Frantom. Upon motion made, seconded and carried, these <br />were referred to the Department of Personnel. <br />EXTENSION .OF SICK .TIME - DALE FORTIN <br />A request was received from Chief Bland asking for an extension of sick <br />time over 30 days. Attached was a letter from the Pension Doctor, stating <br />that it is too soon for an evaluation for a permanent disability. The <br />Doctor advised that Mr. Fortin should be seen in three months. Upon motion <br />made, seconded and carried, the Board accepted the Chief's recommendation <br />to extend the sick time of Dale Fortin for a period of three months. <br />POLICE DEPARTMENT Chief Robert W. Seals was present and matters pertaining <br />to his Department were discussed. <br />REQUEST FOR LEAVE OF ABSENCE - CADET JOSEPH SHEAD <br />The following letter was presented to the Board: <br />Board of Public Works and Safety <br />County City Building <br />South Bend, Indiana <br />Gentlemen: <br />A request for a five month leave of absence has been submitted to this <br />office by Cadet Joseph Shead. <br />Cadet Shead will be attending Indiana University at Bloomington, Indiana, <br />for the purpose of acquiring courses which are not available at IUSB, and <br />will require a leave from January 1, 1973, to June 1, 1973, at which time <br />he will return for active duty. <br />It is the recommendation of th<is Office that the leave be granted, and we <br />appreciate your consideration of the request <br />Respectfully yours, <br />s/ Robert W. Seals <br />Chief of Police <br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board approved the Chief's <br />recommendation for a leave of absence of 5 months from January 1, 1973 to <br />June 1, 1973 for Cadet Joseph Shead. <br />
