5 <br />November 6, 1972 <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works and Safety convened at <br />9:30 A.M. on Monday, November 6, 1972. All members were present. Mr. <br />Richardson presided at the meeting. Minutes of the last meeting were <br />reviewed and approved. <br />FIRE DEPARTMENTBattalion Chief William Wilson appeared at the meeting. <br />A request was received from Chief Bland asking for an extension of <br />sick leave over thirty days from Dale Fortin. Firefighter Fortin had <br />a heart attack while on duty and will probably be retired. Upon <br />motion made, seconded and carried, the request was granted. <br />BUILDING DEPARTMENT - SUB -STANDARD DIVISION <br />Mr. Isaiah Steed appeared before the Board and the following matters <br />were discussed: <br />Mr. Jon Carpenter appeared before the Board to complain about the <br />condition of 710 North Hill Street. He stated that the contract to <br />demolish the structure had been awarded to the Bryant Excavating <br />Company, but the demolition has .not taken place and the place is <br />? being vandalized to such an extent Mr. Carpenter fears it may be <br />set on fire and his house is only ten feet away from it. Upon <br />motion made, seconded and carried, the Clerk was directed to <br />U <br />write to Mr. Bryant telling him the house must be demolished by <br />5:00 O'clock P.M. on Wednesday, November 8th, or the contract will <br />be given to the next highest bidder. <br />410 Pennsylvania Mr. Preston Gray', owner ,:was directed to appear <br />before the Board on this date, to assure the Board that he had <br />complied with their directions about cleaning up his property. He <br />failed to appear and Mr. Steed was asked to investigate the, matter <br />and it was continued one week. <br />1122 Bissell Street Mr. Masterman of Homemakers Finance appeared <br />before the Board and informed them he had received an abandomnent <br />order for the property. He requested a thirty days continuance in <br />order to rehabilitate the property. Upon motion made, seconded and <br />carried, the request was granted. <br />535 South Taylor Street Mrs. Esther Littow appeared before the Board <br />and stated she is having the house rehabilitated, but it is not yet <br />complete. She requested a thirty days continuance, and upon motion <br />made, seconded and carried the request was granted. <br />The sub -standard structures reported by the Redevelopment Commission <br />were continued until the Redevelopment Commission makes another report. <br />1205 Dunham Street This being the date set for receiving bids for <br />the demolition of the structure at 1205 Dunham Street, the following <br />bids were opened and read: <br />Michiana Builders $585.00 <br />O'Neal Trucking Co. 650.00 <br />B & J Demolition 795.00 <br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the award was made to Michiana <br />Builders on its low bid of $585.00. <br />1020 Fuerbringer Street This being the date iet for receiving bids <br />for the demolition of the structure at 1020 Fuerbringer Street, the <br />following bids were opened and read: <br />Michiana Builders $790.00 <br />O'Neal Trucking Co. 1,100.00 <br />B & J Demolition 850.00 <br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried the award was made to Michiana <br />Builders on its low bid of $790.00. <br />
