10,130/72 <br />Each of these men has been interviewed and approved by the Trustees <br />of the South Bend Fire Department Pension Board, the Fire Chief <br />and the Mayor. Therefore, I recommend that the above named eleven men <br />be appointed to the Department. if they are approved by you, I would <br />like for them to begin work on Monday, October 16, 1972. Upon their <br />appointment, each man will be on probation for a period of six months. <br />At the end of the sixth month, the officer in charge of each man <br />will submit a report to this offi,ce making the necessary remarks <br />reference the progress each man has made. Based on this report, a <br />decision will be made to promote them to a firefighter status. <br />Thank you for your consideration. <br />Very truly yours, <br />SOUTH BEND FIRE DEPARTMENT <br />S/ Jack R. Bland, Fire Chief <br />JRB/ss <br />Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the Board approved <br />the recommendation of the Chief and appointed the above named men to <br />the South Bend Fire Department subject to their six month probationery <br />period. <br />POLICE DEPARTMENT Chief Seals was present and matters pertaining to <br />his department were discussed. <br />The following letter was presented by the Chief: <br />APPOINTMENT TO THE POLICE DEPARTMENT <br />October 27, 1972 <br />Board of Public Works and Safety <br />County City Building <br />South Bend, Indiana <br />Gentlemen: <br />We respectfully request your approval of the appointment to the South <br />Bend Police Department of Richard W. Badics and Timothy Lee Decker <br />pending approval by the Police Pension Board. <br />Sincerely, <br />RWS/mm s/ Robert W. Seals, Chief of Police <br />Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the Board approved <br />the appointment of Richard W. Badics and Timothy Lee Decker to the <br />South Bend Police Department. <br />SGT. GERALD KNEPPER TO ATTEND MEETING IN HOUSTON <br />Chief Seals requested that Gergeant Gerald Knepper be permitted to <br />go to Houston the week of October 31 to meet with Mr. Joe Larimore <br />to finalize the operation procedural book for our regional system . <br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried the request was granted and <br />Sergeant Knepper was granted permission to go to Houston. <br />SPECIAL POLICE BOND - ROBERT REID <br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the special police bond con- <br />tinuation certificate was approved and ordered filed for Robert Reid. <br />REQUEST TO ADVERTISE FOR BIDS <br />The Chief requested that the Clerk advertise for bids for a radio <br />Communications Systems for the Police Department, and upon motion <br />made, seconded and carried, the Clerk was directed to advertise for <br />bids to be received up till November 13, 1972. <br />
