October 16, 1972 A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works and Safety convened at 9:30 A.M., on Monday, October 16, 1972. All members were present. Minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. FIRE DEPARTMENT Chief Bland was present and matters pertaining to his department were discussed. Chief Bland presented a letter from the Legal Department wherein he was informed that pursuant to Burns #48-6936 property owned by the city which is no longer needed or is unfit for its intended ; purpose, if the value of the property is less than $500.00 it may be sold at a public or private sale or exchanged or transferred without advertising, but subject to written authorization by the executive authority of the Municipality._ It is now determined that the Board of Public Works and safety of the City of South Bend is the Executive Authority, therefore BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA That a 1968 Chevrolet Be] Air Sedan, Serial Numberl54698F169418 , and owned by the city through its Fire Department is of a value less than $500.00, to -wit; $75.00 and may be disposed of by private sale without advertising. Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the above resolution was adopted. POLICE DEPARTMENT Chief Seals appeardd before the Board and matters pertaining to his department were discussed. APPLICATIONS Applications for the Police Department were filed with the Board and upon motion made, seconded and carried referred to the Per- sonnel Department, for the following: .David Wayne HollowayJames Duane Parcell SPECIAL POLICE BOND CONTINUATION - ROBERT GAMMAGE A Special Police Bond Continuation certifiecate was approved and ordered filed for Robert Gammage. PROMOTIONS WITHIN DEPARTMENT Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the recommenda- tion of the Chief was accepted and the following officers were pro- moted to Corporal upon completing five years of satisfactory service in the department: Effective October 16, 1972: Effective October 21,1972: effective November 1, 1972: STATISTICAL REPORT FILED Dean Tinkel Vinson Smith Frank Mattei Thomas Kellogg Billy Dee Wells John Brassell Thomas Gargis John Forslund Jimmy Emmons The Police Department Statistical Report for the month of September, 1972 was accepted and ordered filed by the Board. CHANGE IN HOLIDAY DATE Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board repealed its action of October 109 1972 and directed that the Veterans' Day Holiday for city purposes will be held on Friday, November 10, 1972. Upon motion made, seconded and carried, Chief Seals was granted per- mission to attend a Law Enforcement Class in San Jose, California, October 23-27, 1972.
