October 16, 1972 <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works and Safety convened <br />at 9:30 A.M., on Monday, October 16, 1972. All members were <br />present. Minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. <br />FIRE DEPARTMENT Chief Bland was present and matters pertaining <br />to his department were discussed. <br />Chief Bland presented a letter from the Legal Department wherein <br />he was informed that pursuant to Burns #48-6936 property owned by <br />the city which is no longer needed or is unfit for its intended ; <br />purpose, if the value of the property is less than $500.00 it <br />may be sold at a public or private sale or exchanged or transferred <br />without advertising, but subject to written authorization by the <br />executive authority of the Municipality._ <br />It is now determined that the Board of Public Works and safety of <br />the City of South Bend is the Executive Authority, therefore <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY <br />OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA That a 1968 Chevrolet Be] Air <br />Sedan, Serial Numberl54698F169418 , and owned by the city through <br />its Fire Department is of a value less than $500.00, to -wit; <br />$75.00 and may be disposed of by private sale without advertising. <br />Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the above <br />resolution was adopted. <br />POLICE DEPARTMENT Chief Seals appeardd before the Board and matters <br />pertaining to his department were discussed. <br />APPLICATIONS <br />Applications for the Police Department were filed with the Board <br />and upon motion made, seconded and carried referred to the Per- <br />sonnel Department, for the following: <br />.David Wayne HollowayJames Duane Parcell <br />SPECIAL POLICE BOND CONTINUATION - ROBERT GAMMAGE <br />A Special Police Bond Continuation certifiecate was approved and <br />ordered filed for Robert Gammage. <br />PROMOTIONS WITHIN DEPARTMENT <br />Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the recommenda- <br />tion of the Chief was accepted and the following officers were pro- <br />moted to Corporal upon completing five years of satisfactory service <br />in the department: <br />Effective October 16, 1972: <br />Effective October 21,1972: <br />effective November 1, 1972: <br />STATISTICAL REPORT FILED <br />Dean Tinkel <br />Vinson Smith <br />Frank Mattei <br />Thomas Kellogg <br />Billy Dee Wells <br />John Brassell <br />Thomas Gargis <br />John Forslund <br />Jimmy Emmons <br />The Police Department Statistical Report for the month of September, 1972 <br />was accepted and ordered filed by the Board. <br />CHANGE IN HOLIDAY DATE <br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board repealed its action of <br />October 109 1972 and directed that the Veterans' Day Holiday for city <br />purposes will be held on Friday, November 10, 1972. <br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, Chief Seals was granted per- <br />mission to attend a Law Enforcement Class in San Jose, California, <br />October 23-27, 1972. <br />
