9/18/72 <br />POLICE DEPARTMENT <br />OFFICER L_ONZO KERR, JR. TO GO TO SCHOOL <br />A letter was received from Chief Seals requesting permission to send <br />Officer Lonzo Kerr, Jr. to the Defensive Driving Instructor Develop- <br />ment Course sponsored by the National Safety Council on September <br />19 and 20 in Chicago, Illinois. <br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried the request was granted and <br />Officer Kerr is directed to attend the course. <br />TRAFFIC CONTROL DEVICES APPROVED: <br />A No Parking sign was approved for installation in the 100 block' <br />West Monroe Street on the south side of the Street, the east one- <br />half block 6 meters "No Parking 6AM-9AM - 3PM-6PM; West one-half <br />block 5 meters "No Parking 3PM-6PM. <br />200 Block West Monroe Street North side of Street entire block - <br />9 meters "NO PARKING" This is due to North Main Street viaduct <br />reconstruction. <br />C- No Parking on 100 block West Wayne,Street, North side of Street <br />C„) East on -half block 6 meters "No Parking" 6AM-9AM - 3PM-6PM. <br />Remove Parking sign on South Side of East Monroe Street from Michigan <br />Street to Lincoln Way East. <br />Upon all of the above motion was made, seconded and carried to accept <br />the recommendation of the Bureau of Traffic and approve requests. <br />LETTER RE: IRONWOOD AVENUE SIDEWALK <br />Mr. Sweeney read the following letter addressed to Peter Nemeth, <br />President of the Common Council: <br />September 18, 1972 <br />Mr. Peter J. Nemeth, President <br />South Bend Common Council <br />County -City Building <br />South Bend, Indiana <br />Dear President Nemeth: <br />Re: Ironwood Drive Sidewalk <br />On July 10, 1972, the South Bend Department of Public Works and Safety <br />adopted Improvement Resolution No. 3365 calling for the improvement of <br />North Ironwood Drive from approximately 200 feet south of Bader Avenue <br />to Corby Street by constructing a public sidewalk. <br />A public hearing was held on August 8, 1972, wherein the interested and <br />affected property owners were heard. The Improvement Resolution was first <br />confirmed on that date. Following the hearing, a written remonstrance <br />against the said improvement bearing the signatures of 51% or more of the <br />resident property owners on said street, who may be liable for the assess- <br />ment of said improvement, was filed. Following this action, the Board <br />of Public Works and Safety on September 5, 1972,.rescinded their earlier <br />Improvement Resolution No. 3365. <br />Pursuant to Burns Indiana Annotated Statute (I.C. 19-8-16-7), the Legal <br />Department has been instructed to prepare for the Common Council an <br />Ordinance calling for the improvement of said sidewalk.
