9/11/72 <br />The following letter was presented: <br />September 8, 1972 <br />Board of Public Works and Safety <br />13th Floor, County City Building <br />South Bend, Indiana 46601 <br />Re: Firefighter Harold A. Schuttrow <br />Honorable Members of the ,Board: <br />Attached hereto please find the Application and Declaration for <br />Retirement of the above named firefighter, who wishes to make his <br />retirement effective September 8, 1972. <br />Appointed April 3, 1951, Firefighter Schuttrow has completed <br />Twenty-one (21) years of service on the South Bend Fire Department. <br />His birth date is August 8, 1923. <br />1 recommend that his retirement be granted, which I trust will meet <br />with your approval. <br />jRespectfully yours, <br />SOUTH BEND FIRE DEPARTMENT <br />JRB/ss <br />s/ Jack R. Bland, Fire Chief <br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the above retirement was <br />approved with regret. The Clerk was instructed to write to Mr. <br />Schuttrow and thank him for his years of service to the City. <br />LETTER FROM MR AND MRS. CASTLE RE: FIRE HYDRANTS <br />A letter was received, from Mr. & Mrs. Charles Castle, 52194 Oakland, <br />South Bend, Indiana wherein they state they approve the painting of <br />the fire hydrants red, white and blue. <br />POLICE DEPARTMENT <br />The followingi., letter was presented to the Board: <br />SEPT. 8, 1972 <br />Board of Public Works and Safety <br />County City Building <br />South Bend, Indiana <br />Gentlemen: <br />An invitation has been extended to Division Chief Loren M. Bussert <br />to attend the National Symposium on Police Community Relations <br />sponsored by the United States Department of Justice from September <br />17, 1972 to September 20, 1972. <br />All expenses will be paid by the Department of Justice including <br />travel, all lodging and meals while at Quantico, Virginia, where <br />the Symposium -will be held at the New FBI Training Facility. <br />We recommend that this request by Chief Bussert to attend the above. <br />be granted. <br />Respectfully yours, <br />s/ Robert W.
