Mrs. Hummel said the.purpose.of.the. parade was <br />to publicize the mailing of letters in order to get the legislation <br />requiring the wearing of helmets changed. She noted that some <br />of the helmets sold do not protect the riders. There was a <br />discussion of the request and it was noted that the Board's policy <br />is to accept the recommendation of the Police Department on <br />such requests. Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board <br />denied.the request for the parade upon the recommendation of <br />Captain Sweitzer of the Police Department Traffic Detail. <br />REQUEST TO PREPARE DESIGN PLANS AND SPECIFICATIONS FOR CREST MANOR SEWERS <br />The Board received a letter from the Bureau of Design and Administration <br />advising them that a petition was received from residents requesting <br />the construction of sanitary sewers in part of Crest Manor, between <br />Miami, Raleigh and Abshire Drive. The Department is requesting <br />permission to proceed with the design and preliminary plans. Upon <br />motion made, seconded and carried, the Board approved the request and <br />directed the Bureau of Design and Administration to proceed with <br />preparation of preliminary plans and specifications. <br />STREET SERVICES APPROVED <br />The Board received a recommendation from Kathleen Cekanski, Deputy <br />City Attorney, that she had reviewed the request of Minister <br />Richard Thomas to conduct street services at Chapin and Western and <br />at Walnut and Washington on alternate Fridays and Saturdays from <br />5 to 6 p.m., during June and July. Miss Cekanski recommended approval, <br />probided there is no interruption of pedestrian traffic or congestion <br />of vehicular traffic in the areas of the services. Upon motion made, <br />seconded and carried, the Board approved the recommendation. <br />REQUEST FOR STREET LIGHT 3200 SORIN STREET <br />The Board received a request from -Maurice L. Palmer for the installation <br />of a street light on the north side of the 3200 block East Sorin <br />Street. It was noted that no new installations are being approved <br />because there is no money available for additional lights at this time. <br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the request was referred to the <br />Bureau of Traffic and Lighting, until such time as there is money <br />for additional street lights. <br />REQUEST TO PURCHASE CITY -OWNED REAL ESTATE <br />The Board received a request from Robert and Elizabeth Barringer, <br />to purchase a lot at 1018 W. Jefferson, from L. J. Daniel to <br />purchase a lot at 1219-1221 S. Lafayette and from Richard Ludwick <br />to purchase a lot at 1601 Longley. Upon motion made, seconded and carried, <br />the requests were filed and referred to the Bureau of Design and <br />Administration for a review to see that the lots are city -owned and <br />that there are no reasons for the City to retain the lots. <br />APPOINTMENT OF APPRAISERS <br />A resolution for°the sale of city -owned real estate at 2315 Linden <br />Avenue and a part of Lot No. 6 of Mary Whitherill's Subdivision <br />was submitted to the Common Council on May 20, 1975. Thirty days have <br />elapsed since that time and they have not asked that any of the <br />parcels be retained. Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the <br />Board directed that Reginald Howard and Philip Ostreicher be appointed <br />to appraise the properties. <br />LETTER RE: DENIAL OF TAXI LICENSE OF FRED D. PRUITT <br />The Board received a letter from Attorney P. Robert Rigney, Jr. <br />who represents Fred D. Pruitt. Mr. Pruitt applied for a taxi license <br />and the application was denied on the recommendation of Chief of <br />Police John H. Walsh. Mr. Rigney requested documents pertaining to <br />
