mul <br />REGULAR MEETING 14AY 19, 1975 <br />Mr. McGill said they do not want to delay the project, which is of <br />great benefit to the City. Mr. Barcome asked Mr. McGill which <br />bidder he represented and Mr. McGill said it was Ritschard Brothers. <br />Mr. Farrand said that Julius O'Neal was the low bidder on; -.the <br />project. Additional work on the project was checked with the <br />Economic Development Agency and the City Legal Department and they <br />concurred that this contract could be awarded to the O'Neal Trucking <br />Company on a Change Order basis. Mr. Farrand said there might be <br />a public relations problem with Ritschard Brothers, but it would be <br />his intention to bring this contract back before the Board tomorrow <br />to get approval at a special meeting. Mr. Gene Evans, Civic Planning <br />Association, asked Mr. Farrand how -the change order came about. Mr. <br />Farrand said it was the recommendation of the soils consultant who <br />felt this could bring about a savings of money on the job. The <br />Change Order would mean a significant saving in the project. Upon <br />motion made, seconded and carried, the Board delayed any action on <br />the awarding of the contract until May 20, 1975. <br />RECOMMENDATION TO AWARD BIDS - BUREAU OF STREETS TRUCKS <br />The Board received the following recommendations from Donald Decker, <br />Director, Division of Transportation, regarding the awarding of <br />zBureau of Streets Trucks bids. <br />1. That the bid of Shamrock Ford Truck Sales, Inc. for four <br />W <br />sa single axle dump trucks with Dwyer 2 yd. dump bodies and the <br />Deeds Equipment Company Central Hydraulic Systems, with plows, <br />at a total bid price, with options, at $46,148.00, be accepted. <br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the recommendation <br />was approved. <br />2. The bid of Gates Chevrolet Company for 3/4 Ton Pick-up trucks <br />be accepted, but for the purchase of only one truck at <br />a bid price of <br />REQUESTS FROM DOWNTOWN COUNCIL RE: PARKING <br />Several members of the Downtown Council were present. Mr. Jerry <br />Hammes, representing the South Bend -Mishawaka Area Chamber of Commerce, <br />presented the following letter to the Board: <br />REQUEST FOR ACTION <br />The South Bend -Mishawaka Area Chamber of Commerce, pursuant to a <br />May 16 unanimous decision of its Executive Committee and Board of <br />Directors, respectfully requests the South Bend Board of Public Works <br />and Safety to act favorably on the following recommendations relating <br />to parking in the Downtown South Bend area: <br />1. Install metered parking on the 100 block of North Michigan Street <br />(both sides). <br />2. Metered on -street parking FREE on. Monday nights the same as <br />other nights. <br />3.
