34 <br />REGULAR MEETING APRIL 28. 1975 <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works was convened at <br />9:30 a.m, on Monday, April 28, 1975 with ail members present. <br />Deputy City Attorney Kathleen Cekanski was also present. Minutes <br />of the previous meeting were reviewed and approved. <br />OPENING OF BIDS .REPAIR OF FIRE DEPARTMENT SNORKEL <br />This was the date set for receiving bids for four options on repair <br />of the Fire Department Snorkel. The Clerk tendered proofs of <br />publication of notice in the South Bend Tribune and the Tri-County <br />News which were found to be sufficient. The following bids were <br />opened and publicly read: <br />Hill -White Truck Sales Bid was signed by Albert Morgan. <br />non -collusion affidavit was in order <br />and a certified check in the amount <br />of $1455 accompanied the Bid. <br />Bid <br />for <br />Option <br />1 - <br />$14,548.79 <br />International Harvester <br />Bid was signed by T. W. Bryant, <br />non -collusion affidavit was in order, <br />and a certified check in the amount <br />of $2,069 accompanied the bid. <br />Bid <br />for <br />Option <br />1 - <br />$20,690.00 <br />Illinois <br />FWD Truck <br />& Equipment <br />Co. Bid was signed by R. J. Schuster, <br />non -collusion affidavit was in <br />order and a 10% bid bond <br />accompanied the bid. <br />Bid <br />for <br />Option <br />1 - <br />$15,246.00 <br />Bid <br />for <br />Option <br />2 - <br />$17,800.00 <br />Bid <br />for <br />Option <br />3 - <br />9,219.00 <br />Bid for Option 4 - 35,866.00 <br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board referred the <br />bids to the Bureau of Fire for review and recommendation. <br />REQUEST FOR GARDEN PROJECT RECEIVED <br />The Board received a letter from Reynolda F. Hernandez asking that <br />citizens of the southeast side be allowed to use city -owned lots <br />for a community gardens project. The Board indicated that they <br />considered this a most worthwhile project and directed that Mr. <br />Hernandez be sent a letter asking that he make a request for <br />specific city -owned lots for consideration. Mr. Hernandez is to <br />be advised that the City Engineer's Office can assist him in <br />determining which lots would be available. <br />REPORT ON PETITION FOR SCRAP YARD - A. E. MICKELSON <br />The Board received a report from the Bureau of Engineering that <br />the petition submitted by A. E. Mickelson in support of his <br />application to obtain a scrap yard license to operate at 307 W. <br />Calvert Street had been reviewed. The report indicated that only <br />nine of the signatures on the petition had been verified as being <br />property owners. This constitutes one-third of the affected <br />property owners. The Municipal Code requires two-thirds of the <br />property owners to sign such a petition. The report from the <br />Engineering Department was filed and the Clerk was directed to <br />advise Mr. Mickelson of the report. <br />
