330
REGULAR MEETING
APRIL 7, 1975
"The Sollitt Construction Company has requested the closing
of Main Street from Navarre to the alley north of Navarre.
This action, Sollitt feels, is necessary for the demolition
and construction project at Memorial Hospital.
After conferring with Bureau Manager Clem Hazinski, the
following points were brought out:
1. This portion of Main Street is a confirmed inbound
traffic pattern from the northwest side via Riverside
as well as from the north on Michigan via Park Lane.
2. The closing of the street will force southbound traffic
to the intersection of Bartlett and Michigan, which is
not signalized, causing unnecessary congestion at this
point.
3. Closing Main at the alley will divert traffic through the
alley into the doctor's parking area, and into the already
heavily congested front entrance of the hospital.
4. Other recent demolition and construction jobs in congested
areas did not need a strict closure, i.e., Kresge's.
1st Bank Cooling Plant, Sherland Building remodeling,
I.B.T. Building, Memorial Hospital (except where deemed
unsafe during steel erection.)
With the above considerations, it is recommended that an eighteen
(18) foot lane, one way southbound remain open to traffic on Main
Street. The remainder of the area aslrequested can be closed
for the requested one year period.
The temporary cut requested on Navarre Street and Main Street
for a service entrance will be approved. The entrances must be
constructed as a permanent curb cut with proper radii. The
driveway must be paved to prevent the spreading of loose
materials into the roadway.
s/ Ralph Wadzinski
Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board approved the
recommendation of the Bureau of Traffic and Lighting.
REQUEST TO ATTEND BUILDING OFFICIALS SCHOOL APPROVED
The Board received a request from Forrest West, Building Commissioner,
for three inspectors to attend the Spring School of the Indiana
Association of Building Officials on April 14-16 in Indianapolis.
This is a budget approved item. Upon motion made, seconded and
carried, the request was approved.
There being no further business to come before the Board, upon
motion made, seconded and carried, the meeting adjourned at 10:04 a.m.
Pi
