3`Z 1 <br />REGULAR MEETING <br />MARCH 24, 1975 <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works was convened at <br />9:30 a.m, on Monday, March 24, 1975 with all members present,. <br />Deputy City Attorney Kathleen Cekanski was also present. Minutes <br />of the previous meeting were reviewed and approved. <br />BUREAU OF STREETS MATERIALS BIDS AWARDED <br />The Board.received a recommendation from Donald Decker that all <br />bids be accepted as submitted for Bureau of Streets Materials for <br />1975, with the exception of the Eckler-Lahey Lumber Company bid. <br />They have requested that their bid be withdrawn because there was <br />an error made in computing the total amount of the bid. Mr. Decker <br />informed the Board that accepting all bids would afford the Bureau <br />of Streets a second source of available material at a firm price. <br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board accepted the bids <br />of Walsh & Kelly, Rieth Riley Construction Co., Emulsified Asphalt, <br />Westville Oil, Wanatah Trucking Co., Western Materials, Levy Company <br />Hass Concrete, Kuert Concrete, Pose Fuel_ and Materials, Bitucote <br />Products, and South Bend Sand and Gravel Co., and allowed the Eckler- <br />0 Lahey Company bid to be withdrawn at their request. <br />CZ <br />M FILING OF PETITION TO VACATE ALLEY <br />W The St. Joseph Polish Roman Catholic Cemetery Associations' Burial <br />�s7 Establishment, Inc. files their petition to vacate the south half <br />of the first north -south alley east of Walnut Street running from <br />Western Avenue north to the first east and west cross alley. The <br />petition was filed because the alley is not used by the public. <br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the petition was referred <br />to the Bureau of Engineering for preliminary investigation and a <br />utility check of the area, with a report to be made to the Board. <br />RECOIIENDATION RE: COLLECTION BOXES AT POST OFFICE <br />The Board received a report from Clem Hazinski, Manager of the <br />Bureau of Traffic and Lighting, that he had reviewed the request <br />of the Post Office to place snorkel type drop boxes at two locations. <br />Mr. Hazinski said his recommendation to the Board would be to allow <br />the installation on the north side of Western, West of the Plaza. <br />Mr. Hazinski also noted that off-street locations on E. Monroe and <br />E. Western were recommended to the Post Office, and he would recommend <br />that the location requested now be used only until permanent off-street <br />locations are installed. Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the <br />Board accepted Mr. Hazinski's recommendation and approved the locaton <br />of snorkel type drop boxes for the Post Office on the north side of <br />Western Avenue, west of the Plaza. <br />REQUEST FOR V.F.W. POPPY SALE <br />The Board received a request from the V.F.W. Post 1167 for permission <br />to hold their Poppy Sale on May 16 and 17, 1975 on the streets in <br />South Bend. Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the request was <br />approved. <br />APPROVAL OF LEASE - SOUTH BEND CIVIC THEATRE <br />The Board received a lease between the City of South Bend and the <br />South Bend Civic Theatre for the use of old Fire Station #6. The <br />lease was prepared by the Legal Department nad has been signed by <br />representatives of the Civic Theatre. Upon motion made, seconded <br />and carried, the Board approved the lease. <br />PAYMENT REQUEST APPROVED - WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANT ADDITIONS <br />Payment Request No. 41 from the Sollitt Construction Company <br />for the Wastewater Treatment Plant Additions was submitted to the <br />Board. The payment request was in the amount of $31,764.69. Upon <br />motion made, seconded and carried, the request was approved. <br />
