27. <br />'R9GULAR MEETING JANUARY 6, 147-4_. <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works was convened at <br />9:30 a.m, on Monday, January 6, 1975 with all members present. <br />Deputy City Attorney Kathleen Cekanski was also present. Minutes <br />of the previous meeting were reviewed and approved. <br />OPENING OF BIDS - BUREAU OF STREETS SWEEPERS <br />This was the date set for receiving bids for two street sweepers for <br />the Bureau of Streets. The Clerk tendered proofs of publication of <br />notice in the South Bend Tribune and the Tri-County News which were <br />found to be sufficient. The following bids were opened and publicly <br />read: <br />Ries Equipment Company Bid was signed by Norman Dahlman, <br />Indianapolis, Indiana non -collusion affadavit was in order <br />and a 10% bid bond accompanied the bid. <br />Bid - $31,945.00 per unit - Total $63,890.00 <br />MacDonald Machinery Company Bid was signed by Melvin Bultemeier, <br />Fort Wayne, Indiana non -collusion affidavit was in order <br />and a 10% bid bond accompanied the bid. <br />Bid - $24,685.76 each - Total $49,371.52 <br />Indiana Equipment Company, Inc. Bid was signed by Arthur Wilson, Jr., <br />Indianapolis -Fort Wayne non -collusion affidavit was in order <br />Bid - $27,885.00 each and a 10% bid bond accompanied the bid. <br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the bids were referred to <br />Donald Decker, Director, Division of Transportation for review and <br />recommendation. <br />PUBLIC HEAPING - ASSESSMENT ROLL, VACATION RESOLUTION NO. 3406; 1974 <br />This.being the date set, hearing was held on the Assessment Roll . <br />for Vacation Resolution No. 3406, 1974 for the vacation of a portion <br />of Sunnymede Avenue from -the west right-of-way line of 35th Street <br />to.the west line of Lots 7 and 18 of Jerome FirstAddition, City of <br />South Bend, as amended. The Clerk tendered proofs of publication <br />of notice in the South Bend Tribune and the Tri-County News which <br />were found to be sufficient. No remonstrators appeared and no written <br />remonstrances having been filed, upon notion made, seconded and <br />carried, the Assessment Roll showing no net dar_lages and no net benefits <br />was approved as adopted and said resolution is in all things ratified <br />and confirmed and said proceedings closed. <br />PUBLIC HEARING - ASSESSMENT ROLL NO. 2974, NORTHWEST SANITARY SEWERS <br />This being the date set, hearing was held on Assessment Poll No. 2974, <br />the Northwest Sanitary Sewer project. The Clerk tendered proofs of <br />publication of notice in the South Bend Tribune and the Tri-County <br />News which were found to be sufficient. Mr. Farrand explained that <br />this sewer project was done in accordance with Barrett Law procedures <br />and this hearing was to allow property owners to be heard if they had <br />questions regarding their assessments. Mrs. Mary Buczkowski, 205 , <br />Walsh Street, owner of Lot 521 told the Board that they were assessed <br />for a sewer previously and asked about this assessment. David Wells, <br />Manager of the Bureau of Design and Administration, explained that <br />the previous assessment was for the trunk sewer and that this is for <br />the local sanitary sewers. Mrs. Julius DeMaegt, 2705 Marquette <br />Avenue, said LOt 436 which she owns had been assessed on a previous <br />sewer project. Mr. Farrand advised Mrs. DeMaegt that the Engineering <br />Department would review that assessment. Mr. John King, 23676 Grove <br />Street, asked about the square foot assessment for Lots 467 and 468. <br />Mr. Farrand explained that this sewer project was assessed at 2G per <br />foot, while most of the other sewer projects have been running about , <br />7� a foot.
