6 pi <br />REGULAR MEETING <br />DECEMBER 30, 1974 <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works was convened at <br />9:30 a.m. on Monday, December 30, 1974 with all members present. <br />Deputy City Attorney Kathleen Cekanski was also present. Minutes <br />of the previous meeting were reviewed and approved. <br />PUBLIC HEARING - VACATION RESOLUTION NO. 3407, 197.4 -,ST. JOSEPH <br />HOSPITAL <br />This being the date set, hearing was held on Vacation Resolution <br />No. 3407, 1974 for the vacation of the alley between St. Louis and <br />St. Peter Streets, from Madison Street south 198 feet, City of <br />South Bend. The Clerk tendered proofs of publication of notice <br />in the South Bend Tribune and the Tri-County News on December 6 <br />and 13 which were found to be sufficient. Mr. Timothy W. Woods, <br />Attorney for St. Joseph Hospital, the petitioner, was present. <br />There were no remonstrators present and no written remonstrances <br />were filed with the Board. Upon motion made, seconded and <br />carried, the Board ratified and confirmed Vacation Resolution No. <br />3407, 1974 and said alley is vacated. The City Engineer is <br />directed to prepare an Assessment Roll showing the award of damages <br />and the assessment of benefits to the surrounding properties. <br />PUBLIC HEARING - VACATION RESOLUTION NO. 3408, 1974 - THE O'BRIEN <br />CORPORATION <br />This being the date set, hearing was held on Vacation Resolution No. <br />3408, 1974 for the vacation of a portion of Colfax Avenue west of <br />Jackson Street and the north -south alley from Washington Street to <br />Colfax Avenue, City of South Bend. <br />The Clerk tendered proofs of publication of notice in the South Bend <br />Tribune and the Tri-County News which were found to be sufficient. <br />Mr. Timothy Woods, Attorney for the O'Brien Corporation, the petitioner, <br />was present. Mrs. Joseph Horvath was present and asked the Board <br />about the property at 120 N. Jackson, which belonged to her parents. <br />She asked about an appraisal of the property made recently and <br />whether the City was going to purchase the property. Mr. Farrand <br />directed Mrs. Horvath to David Wells of the Engineering Department <br />in regard to a Model Cities sewer project in the area. Mr. & Mrs. <br />John Borders, 209 N. Jackson Street, were present and asked the Board <br />what effect this hearing would have on their property. It was deter- <br />mined that they are about two blocks from the proposed vacation and <br />would not be affected. Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the <br />Board ratified and confirmed Vacation Resolution No. 3408, 1974 and <br />said portion of Colfax Avenue and the north -south alley is vacated. <br />The City Engineer is directed to prepare an Assessment Roll showing <br />the award of damages and the assessment of benefits to the <br />surrounding properties. <br />REQUEST TO CLOSE NAVARRE STREET ON MAY 2 AND TO ERECT A TENT <br />The Board received a letter -from the Junior League outlining their <br />plans to renovate a house and hold a Show House Project. They are <br />requesting that Navarre Street be closed from Portage to Lafayette <br />on May 2, 1975 in connection with their show and would also like <br />permission to erect a tent from May 2 through May 23. Upon motion <br />made, seconded and carried, the request was referred to the Bureau <br />of Traffic and Lighting and the Building Department for review <br />and recommendation. Mr. Hazinski was directed to take a close <br />look at the request for the closing of Navarre Street with regard <br />to traffic patterns in the area and to contact a representative <br />of the Junior League to work with them on acceptable arrangements. <br />ACCEPTANCE OF TOPICS T6000(6) BY STATE HIGHWAY COMMISSION <br />The Board received a letter from the Indiana State Highway Commission <br />indicating that they have accepted the completed construction under <br />Project T6000(6), the South Michigan Street viaduct project and have <br />released the contractor from further maintenance responsibility. The <br />project now reverts to the City of South Bend for maintenance. Upon <br />motion made, seconded and carried, the letter was filed. <br />
