Marion St.,
asking that the intersection of Michigan and Marion be investigated
because of the dangerous conditions for pedestrians. She suggested
that a walk button be installed so pedestrians could cross the
intersection. Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board
referred the letter to the Bureau of Traffic and Lighting for review
and recommendation.
AWARDING OF BID - BUREAU OF SOLID WASTE VEHICLES
Michael L. Vance, Fiscal Officer for the Department of Public Works,
reported to the Board that the bid of Shamrock Ford for three cabs
and chassis had been reviewed and could be accepted. Upon motion made,
seconded and carried, the Board accepted the bid of the Shamrock Ford
Company for three cabs and chassis for the Bureau of Solid Waste
at a total bid price of $31,412.71.
RECOMMENDATION - ELWOOD AVENUE SIDEWALKS
The Board received a recommendation from the Department of Public
Works following their review of the Barrett Law Project for the
reconstruction of the Elwood Avenue sidewalks. It was recommended that
the sidewalks past the Department of Parks and Recreation property
be deleted from the project and the project then be approved. The
Department of Parks has agreed to construct the sidewalks with their
own personnel. It was further recommended that the Board of Park
Commissioners be asked to verify this agreement in writing and that
a tentative date for completion of the sidewalk construction be;
indicated. Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board confirmed
Improvement Resolution No. 3404, 1974 for the improvement of Elwood
Avenue from Olive Street to Portage Avenue, excepting that portion on
the south side of Elwood Avenue from Wilbur Street to the east line of
Muessel Park, subject to the agreement, in writing, of the Board of
Park Commissioners to install sidewalks along the park property on
Elwood Avenue and to set a date for tentative completion of the sidewalk
construction.
RIDE -A -BIKE FOR COUNCIL OF RETARDED DENIED
The Board received a report from Clem Hazinski, Manager of the Bureau
of Traffic and Lighting, that the request of the Council for the
Retarded to hold a Ride -A -Bike on Sunday, April 27, 1975 had been
reviewed with the Police Department and the Civil Defense Department.
Because a March of Dimes Walkathon has already been approved for April
26, 1975) it was recommended that this request be denied. The Board's
guidelines for such events required a two week period between each
Walk. Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the recommendation was
approved. The request of the Council of the Retarded was denied.
They are to be contacted to see if they would like to submit an
alternate date for consideration.
REPORT - WEST.SAMPLE STREET SIGNALIZATION STUDY
The Board received a full report from the Bureau of Traffic and
Lighting of the West Sample Street signalization study. The report
indicates that none of the warrants for signalization are met. There
are some areas where there might be difficulty if signals were installed,
and the signals might, in some cases, cause increased delay. It was
noted that actuated signals could be installed by the industries in
some areas. Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the full report
was filed.
1
1
