1
I I
REGULAR MEETING MARCH 25, 1974
REQUEST TO ADVERTISE FOR BIDS TO DEMOLISH OLIVER GENERATING STATION
Mr. Farrand requested that.the Board approve advertising for bids for the
demolition of the Oliver Generating Station on the riverbank. Upon motion
made, seconded and carried, the Board approved the request and directed the
Clerk to advertise for bids on March 29 and April 5, with bids to be received
at 9:30 a.m. on April 8, 1974.
JANET ALLEN RE: MICH.IGAN-MAIN CONNECTOR
Mrs. Janet Allen, 125 W. Marion, was present and asked the Board if plans for the
Michigan -Main Street connector were available for inspection,. Mr. Farrand explained
that they do have a preliminary report but have not yet made a public announcement.
He said there would be a public hearing on the project and plans would be available
for inspection at that time. Mrs. Allen said the previous administration had
projected that the new bridge would go in at Marion Street at an angle and that was
why Marion Street was proposed as the connector street. Now that the bridge is
going in at Madison Street, she asked that the Board consider moving the connector
one block south to Madison Street. She said that would be getting it ou,t of a
residential area and an area of churches. She said moving it one block south would
put it in a commercial area where people would not be affected. Mr. Farrand again
explained that a public hearing would be held on the proposed connector.
MAINTENANCE OF MICHIGAN STREET
Mr. Farrand said a recent newspaper story was critical of the City for not taking
care of ice control on Michigan Street during the storm on Saturday. Mr. Donald
Decker, Director of the Division of Transportation, was present and said he had
contacted the State Highway Crew and was told that Michigan Street was not on their
schedule. Mr. Decker then sent the Street Department crew out. Mr. Farrand said
he feels the City is being unjustly criticized in this matter, since Michigan Street
is a State Highway responsibility.
There being no further business to come before the meeting, upon motion made,
seconded and carried, the meeting adjourned at 10:35 a.m.
J es R.
