REGULAR MEETING <br />AUGUST 30, 1976 <br />REQUEST FOR PARKING REMOVAL FOR AIR SHOW OCTOBER 2 AND 3 <br />The Board received a request from Michiana Air Salute to ban <br />parking on a number of streets in the vicinity of the Airport <br />Industrial Park in connection with the Second Annual Air Show <br />to be held at the Michiana Regional Airport on October 2 and 3. <br />Upon motion made by Mr. Farrand, seconded by Mr. Brunner and <br />carried, the request was referred to the Bureau of Traffic and <br />Lighting for review and coordination with the Police Department. <br />RIVER BEND PLAZA APPLICATIONS APPROVED <br />Ronald Bock, Director of River Bend Plaza, submitted to the Board <br />the following applications, with his favorable recommendation: <br />A. South Bend Symphony Concert on 'September 16. <br />B. Y.W.C.A. Adult Class Information on September 9 and 11 <br />C. "Society" Dance Exhibition on September 2 <br />Upon motion made by Mr. Farrand, seconded by Mr. Brunner and, <br />carried, the applications were approved. <br />CERTIFICATE OF INSURANCE FILED VALLEY CABLEVISION, INC. <br />A Certificate of Insurance on behalf of Valley Cablevision, Inc. <br />was submitted to the Board. Deputy City Attorney Georgia Luks <br />reviewed the certificate and recommended that it be filed with <br />the Board. Upon motion made by Mr. Farrand, seconded by Mr. Brunner <br />and carried, the certificate was ordered filed. <br />STREET LIGHT OUTAGE REPORT FILED <br />The Street Light Outage Report for the period of August 23 through <br />27 was received. The report indicated 17 outages. Upon motion <br />made by Mr. Farrand, seconded by Mr. Mullen and carried, the <br />Board filed the report. <br />FILING OF ASSESSMENT ROLL - IMPROVEMENT RESOLUTION NO. 3420 <br />Rollin E. Farrand, City Engineer, files with the Board an assess- <br />ment roll showing amounts assessed against property for the <br />Crest Manor Sections 1 and 2 Sanitary Sewers, authorized under <br />Improvement Resolution No. 3420, adopted by the Board on September <br />21% 1976. Upon motion made by Mr. Farrand, seconded by Mr. Brunner <br />and carried, the Board filed the Assessment Roll and set a public <br />hearing on the matter for Monday, September 13, 1976 at 9:30 a.m. <br />at which time all interested persons may be heard on the amounts <br />assessed against property for the improvement. <br />REQUEST TO ADVERTISE FOR BODY ARMOR FOR POLICE DEPARTMENT <br />The Board received a request from Chief Borkowski and Chief Terry <br />to advertise for bids for -body armor for the Police Department. <br />Detailed specifications are to be provided. Mr. Mullen asked <br />Chief Terry to develop a policy for the Department to be available <br />when bids are opened to determine whether use of the equipment <br />is to be mandatory, optional or used under certain specific <br />conditions. He said the City would not want to purchase a number <br />of these items, at considerable expense, if they were not all <br />going to be used. Chief Terry said it appears that all the <br />uniformed officers do want the equipment and said a policy would <br />be established. Mr. Mullen said an ordinance requesting revenue <br />sharing funds for the purchase of the body armor would be filed <br />with the Common Council for first reading at their next meeting. <br />Upon motion made by Mr. Farrand, seconded by Mr. Brunner and carried, <br />the request to advertise for bids was approved and sealed bids will <br />be received on Monday, September 13, 1976. <br />1 <br />
