WALK FOR DISARMAMENT AND SOCIAL JUSTICE APPROVED
The Bureau of Traffic and Lighting reviewed a request from the
Continental Walk for Disarmament and Social Justice to hold a
walk on September 1, 1976 from the City Limits on U. S. 20 West
to the Plaza and on September 3, 1976 from the Plaza east on U. S.
20 the City Limits. The walk on September l would-be at approximately
4:00 or 5:00 p.m. and the walk on September 3 would begin at 10:00
a.m. Ralph J. Wadzinski, Manager of the Bureau of Traffic and
Lighting, was present and reported to the Board that he had
reviewed the request with Chief Foy of the Police Department and they
have no objection to the walk if the participants use the sidewalks
and obey all traffic signals. He said the requested use of a sound
truck or band would constitute a parade and would require liability
insurance. He and the Police Department concur that approval could
not be given for the, walk between the hours of 4 and 5 p.m. on
Wednesday if a parade is planned. Mrs. Glendarae Hernandez, represen-
tative of the Continental Walk, was present and said the group has
dropped their plans to have a band or motor vehicles and would be
walking on.the sidewalks only. Mr. Mullen asked Mrs. Hernandez
how many people would participate and she said they expected 20 to
25 people. Mr. Farrand made a motion, based on Mr. Wadzinski's
recommendation and Mrs. Hernandez' presentation to the Board that
the group would walk on the sidewalk and would not include a band
or vehicles, that the Board approve the walk. Mr. Brunner seconded
the motion and it carried.
BLOCK PARTY ON PIANITOU PLACE APPROVED
The Board received a recommendation from Ralph Wadzinski, Manager
of the Bureau of Traffic and Lighting, that the request of the Park
Avenue Neighborhood Association to block Manitou Place, between
Forest Avenue and Park Avenue, on Wednesday, September 8, 1976 from
6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m._had been reviewed with the.Police Department
and approval could be given subject to the requirements of the -
Board. Upon motion made by Mr. Farrand, seconded by Mr. Brunner and
carried, the Board approved the closing of Manitou Place on September
8 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., subject to the filing of a Certificate
of Insurance.
REQUEST FOR TENT SALE APPROVED - J. E. WALZ, INC.
The Board received a report from John DeLee, Building Commissioner,
that he had reviewed the request of J. E. Ralph J. Wadzinski, Manager of the Bureau
of Traffic and Lighting, reported to the Board that he had no
objection to the Tent Sale providing that any lighting or advertising
in the area be directed in such a way that it will not blind
motorists on Main Street. Upon motion made by Mr. Farrand, seconded
by Mr. Mullen and carried, the request was approved subject to the
requirements.of the Building Department and the Bureau of Traffic
and Lighting and to all regulations of the Fire Prevention Bureau.
REPORT ON REQUEST TO VACATE AND BLOCK PARALLEL STREET
The Board received a request from G & N Warehouse, Inc. to vacate
Parallel Street, between Jackson and College, and to erect a fence
in the area while the vacation proceedings are underway to provide
security for Loitz Brothers Construction Company equipment during
the construction of the Model Cities Sewer Separation Project.
Ralph J. Wadzinski, Manager of the Bureau of Traffic and Lighting,
submitted a report to the Board indicating that he had reviewed the
request and had no objection to the vacation petition. In reference
to the immediate blocking of Parallel Street during the vacation
proceedings, Mr. Wadzinski said a check should be made with the Fire
and Police Departments to see whether the closing would affect
their departments. Upon motion made by Mr. Farrand, seconded by
Mr. Mullen and carried, the Board took the request under advisement
and referred it to the Fire and Police Departments for review
and recommendation.
1
