REGULAR MEETING JULY 19, 1976 <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works was convened at <br />9:30 a.m. by President Rollin E. Farrand, with Mr. Farrand and <br />Mr. Brunner present. Deputy City Attorney Georgia Luks was also <br />present. Mr. Mullen joined.the meeting at 9:40 a.m. <br />APPROVAL OF CONTRACT- SINGER GENERAL TIRE COMPANY <br />A contract with Singer General Tire Company for tire repairs for <br />City Vehicles was prepared by Deputy City Attorney Georgia Luks <br />and was transmitted to the Singer General Tire Company, low bidder, <br />for signature. The contract has been executed by Merle Fahler, <br />President, and returned to the Board. Upon motion made by Mr. Farrand, <br />seconded by Mr. Brunner and carried, the contract was approved. <br />APPROVAL OF BID ADVERTISEMENT - FIRE DEPARTMENT PUMPER <br />Chief Robert L. Snider,.Fire Department, submitted to the Board <br />specifications for a 1250 GPM pumper and requested that the Board <br />advertise for bids. Chief Snider's request.stated that none of <br />the three pumpers to be replaced with the three new Mack trucks <br />would be suitable to be renovated for first line reserve duty. <br />Mr. Farrand reported that he had reviewed the specifications with <br />Chief Snider. Mr. Brunner noted that Chief Snider has indicated <br />the loaner truck Michiana Mack was to provide the Department is <br />not acceptable. He asked Chief Snider to contact Ronald Delcamp <br />of Michiana Mack and ask him to start searching for another loaner <br />immediately. Chief Snider advised the Board that the loaner truck <br />Mack has offered has different fittings from a South Bend thread <br />and cannot be used. A check is being made with the Elkhart Brass <br />Company to see whether a fitting can be made which would allow the <br />truck to be used in South Bend. Council Member Mary Christine Adams <br />asked the Board whether a contact could be made with the mechanic <br />who worked on the loaner truck obtained to see about its' performance. <br />Chief Snider said this could be done. Mr. Farrand made a motion that <br />the Board approve the request to advertise for bids for a 1250 GPM <br />pumper for the Fire Department, with bids to be advertised -.'on <br />July 23 and 30 and sealed bids to be received in four weeks, on <br />August 16, 1976. Mr. Brunner seconded the motion and it carried. <br />APPROVAL OF 14INUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETINGS <br />Mr. Farrand reported that a special meeting of the Board was held <br />on July 9 to approve the house moving permit of Thomas G. Podell. <br />He made a motion that the minutes of the special meeting be approved. <br />The motion was seconded by Mr. Mullen and carried. <br />Mr. Farrand made a motion that the minutes of the regular meeting <br />of July 12 be approved as submitted. The motion was seconded by <br />Mr. Brunner and carried. <br />FILING OF NOTIFICATION OF RATE CHANGE BY SOUTH BEND PARKING COMPANY <br />The Board had previously received notification from the South Bend <br />Parking Company of a proposed rate change at their lot at 306 S. <br />Michigan Street. Deputy City Attorney Georgia Luks reviewed the <br />matter and advised the Board that the Municipal Code requires that <br />such written notification must come to the Board and that the new <br />rates become effective only after signs listing the new rates have. <br />been posted on the lot. Upon motion made by Mr. Farrand, seconded <br />by Mr. Mullen and carried, the following rate change notification was <br />filed: <br />South Bend Parking Company, Inc. Lot #24 306 S. Michigan Street <br />Up to One Hour $.50 <br />Two Hours .70 <br />Three Hours .90 <br />Maximum All Day 1.00 <br />Evening Rate .60 <br />(after 5:30 p.m.) <br />
