REGULAR MEETING JANUARY 5, 1976 <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works was convened at <br />9:30 a.m. on Monday, January 5, 1976. Present were Rollin E. <br />Farrand, City Engineer; Thomas J. Brunner, Jr., City Attorney; <br />and Peter H. Mullen, City Controller. Mayor Peter J. Nemeth <br />was also present. <br />SWEARING -IN OF NEW BOARD MEMBERS <br />City Clerk Irene Gammon administered the oath of office as member <br />of the Board of Public Works to Rollin E. Farrand, Thomas J. <br />Brunner, Jr. and Peter H. Mullen. Mayor Nemeth congratulated <br />the Board members and thanked them for serving on the Board. <br />ORGANIZATION OF BOARD <br />Mr. Brunner made a motion that Rollin E. Farrand be nominated to <br />serve as President of the Board. The motion was seconded by <br />Mr. Mullen and was carried. <br />OPENING OF BIDS - ELEVATOR MAINTENANCE CONTRACT, PARKING GARAGES <br />This was the date <br />set for receiving <br />bids for elevator maintenance <br />for the two City <br />Parking Garages. <br />The Clerk tendered proofs of <br />publication of notice <br />in the South <br />Bend Tribune and in the Tri- <br />County News which <br />were found to be <br />sufficient. The following <br />bids were opened <br />and publicly read: <br />Economy Elevators <br />Bid was signed by Thomas A. Cavinder, <br />non -collusion <br />affidavit was in order <br />and a 5% bid bond accompanied the bid. <br />Bid - $480.00 per month <br />There were no other bids received. Upon motion made by Mr. Farrand, <br />seconded and carried, the bid was referred to the Department of <br />Public Works for review and recommendation. <br />PUBLIC HEARING - VACATION RESOLUTION NO. 3424 <br />This being the date set hearing was held on Vacation Resolution <br />No. 3424 for the vacation of the first north -south alley east of <br />Walnut Street running North from the north right-of-way line of <br />Sample Street to the south right-of-way line of the east -west <br />alley between Fisher Street and Sample Street. <br />The Clerk tendered proofs of publication of notice in the South <br />Bend Tribune and the Tri-County News which were found to be <br />sufficient. Mr. William Lagodney was present, representing the <br />petitioner John Molnar. Mr. Lagodney said Mr. Molnar was ill <br />and unable to be present. Mr. Lagodney explained to the Board <br />that he and Mr. Molnar live on opposite sides of this alley. The <br />alley just north of this alley was vacated by the Board last <br />fall. The alley is very small and is not used and the petitioner <br />is requesting that it be vacated. Mr. Farrand then noted that <br />the Area Plan Commission held a public hearing on the proposed <br />vacation and has recommended it favorably to the Board of Public <br />Works. No remonstrators appeared and no written remonstrances <br />were received. Upon motion made by Mr. Farrand, seconded by <br />Mr. Brunner and carried, the Board ratified and confirmed <br />Vacation Resolution No. 3424 and said alley is vacated. <br />
