M
REGULAR MEETING SEPTEMBER 8, 1975
It was noted that the Area Plan Commission held a public hearing
on this proposed vacation and recommended it favorably to the
Board of Public Works. There were no remonstrators present at
the Area Plan Commission hearing. It was also noted that once
the alley is vacated, the property will go back on the tax rolls.
Upon motion made by Mr. Farrand, seconded by Mr. Seitz, and
carried, the Board confirmed Vacation Resolution No. 3417 and
said alley is vacated. The City Engineer is directed to prepare
an Assessment Roll showing the award of damages and the assessment
of benefits to the surrounding properties.
ARTHUR McLEAN - LATE BID
Arthur McLean was present and told the Board that he was not aware
that the City was taking bids for the sale of abandoned vehicles
in time to prepare a bid and he asked whether he.could submit a
bid at this time. Mr. Farrand explained that the legal advertisement
for bids stipulated that they must be received before 9:30 a.m.
today. He said the bids that were received had been opened and
publicly read and the Board could not accept a bid at this time..
INCREASE IN FEE FOR WASHING OF CITY VEHICLES APPROVED
The Board received a request from Stephen Shaw.of the Comet Car Wash
asking for an increase of ten cents, from $1.50 to $1.60,for the
price charged for the washing of city vehicles. It was noted that
there has been no price increase in the past two years. Upon
motion made by Mr. Seitz, seconded by Mr. Farrand, and carried, the
Board approved the increase.
FILING OF PETITION TO VACATE ALLEY - EAST OF WALNUT STREET
John J., Molnar, et al, file their petition to vacate the north -
south alley east of Walnut Street, from the north right-of-way line
of Sample Street to the south right-of-way line of the east --west
alley between Fisher and Sample Street. The petitioner stated
that the alley is seldom used, it is narrow and vehicles have
difficulty making the turn into the cross alley. Upon motion made,
seconded and carried, the petition was filed and referred to the
Bureau of Design and Administration for preliminary review and
recommendation.
REQUEST FOR KIWANIS NEWSPAPER SALE AT VARIOUS INTERSECTIONS AND
ELIMINATING PARKING ON BOTH.SIDES OF LAFAYETTE DURING THE SALE
The Board received a request from Robert Rasmussen = behalf of
the South Bend Kiwanis Club to hold their Annual Newspaper Sale
on September 20 at various intersections. They also requested
that parking be eliminated on both sides of Lafayette Boulevard
near the South Bend Tribune during the sale to allow the loading
of delivery cars with newspapers. Upon motion made, seconded
and carried, the requests were approved, subject to coordination
by the Bureau of Traffic and Lighting both in regard to the
intersections to be approved and to the removal of parking for the
sale.
REQUEST TO BLOCK ADAMS STREET ON OCTOBER 4
The Board received a request from the St. Johns Missionary Society
to block North Adams Street from Liston Street to the alley south
of Orange Street on October 4 from 10:00 a.m. until dark in order
to hold a Church Bazaar.
