REGULAR MEETING DECEMBER 27, 1977 <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works was convened at 9:35 a.m. <br />on Tuesday, December 27, 1977 by President Patrick M. McMahon, with Mr. McMahon, <br />Mr. Brunner and Mr. Mullen present. Deputy City Attorney Terry A. Crone <br />was also present. <br />MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING APPROVED <br />Mr. Mullen reported that the minutes of the December 19, 1977 meeting had <br />been reviewed and he made a motion that they be approved as submitted. Mr. <br />Brunner seconded the motion and it carried. <br />PUBLIC HEARING - REVENUE SHARING APPROPRIATIONS <br />This was the date set for public hearing on the following revenue sharing <br />appropriation ordinances: <br />AN ORDINANCE APPROPRIATING $53,200 FROM THE FEDERAL ASSISTANCE GRANT FUND, <br />COMMONLY REFERRED TO AS GENERAL REVENUE SHARING GRANT, FOR VARIOUS PUBLIC <br />SAFETY PROGRAMS TO BE ADMINISTERED BY THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND THROUGH ITS <br />DEPARTMENT OF ADMINISTRATION AND FINANCE (HUMANE SOCIETY CONTRACT) <br />AN ORDINANCE APPROPRIATING $27,425.00 FROM THE FEDERAL ASSISTANCE GRANT, <br />COMMONLY KNOWN AS GENERAL REVENUE SHARING, FOR VARIOUS LAW ENFORCEMENT PROGRAMS <br />TO BE ADMINISTERED BY THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND THROUGH ITS DEPARTMENT OF LAW <br />(LEGAL INTERNE PROGRAM) <br />AN ORDINANCE APPROPRIATING $57,931.00 FROM THE FEDERAL ASSISTANCE GRANT, <br />COMMONLY KNOWN AS GENERAL REVENUE SHARING, FOR THE OPERATION OF THE YOUTH <br />SERVICES BUREAU, TO BE ADMINISTERED THROUGH THE DEPARTMENT OF HUMAN RESOURCES <br />AN ORDINANCE APPROPRIATING $290,000.00 FROM THE FEDERAL ASSISTANCE GRANT, <br />COMMONLY KNOWN AS GENERAL REVENUE SHARING, FOR THE OPERATION OF CENTURY CENTER <br />TO BE ADMINISTERED THROUGH THE CENTURY CENTER BOARD OF MANAGERS (UTILITY BILLS <br />FOR 1978) <br />AN ORDINANCE APPROPRIATING $110,000.00 FROM THE FEDERAL ASSISTANCE GRANT, <br />COMMONLY KNOWN AS GENERAL REVENUE SHARING, FOR OPERATING THE DISCOVERY HALL <br />PORTION OF CENTURY CENTER FOR THE CALENDAR YEAR 1978, TO BE ADMINISTERED BY THE <br />CITY OF SOUTH BEND THROUGH THE DEPARTMENT OF ADMINISTRATION AND FINANCE <br />AN ORDINANCE APPROPRIATING $49,460.00 FROM THE FEDERAL ASSISTANCE GRANT, COMMONLY <br />REFERRED TO AS GENERAL REVENUE SHARING, FOR THE RIVER BEND PLAZA, TO BE ADMINISTERED <br />BY THE.CITY OF SOUTH BEND THROUGH THE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS <br />AN ORDINANCE APPROPRIATING $36,500.00 FROM THE FEDERAL ASSISTANCE GRANT, <br />COMMONLY REFERRED TO AS GENERAL REVENUE SHARING, FOR THE POLICE RECRUIT PROGRAM <br />TO BE ADMINISTERED BY THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND THROUGH THE POLICE DEPARTMENT <br />(POLICE RECRUIT PROGRAM) <br />The Clerk tendered proofs of publication of notice in the South Bend Tribune <br />which were found to be sufficient. Mr. McMahon noted that the ordinances have <br />been filed with the Common Council and have been set for public hearing on <br />January 9, 1978. He reported that, in accordance with guidelines established for <br />such appropriations, information about this public hearing has been forwarded to <br />the following citizen groups, with the request that the information be posted <br />for the members: Foster Grandparents, Hansel Neighborhood Service Center, <br />Harvest House Centers, Howard Park Senior Citizens' Center, R.E.A.L. Services, <br />Retired Senior Volunteer Program and Senior Citizens Group of LaSalle Park. <br />There were no citizens present who wished to speak on the appropriations and <br />no written comments were filed with the Board. Upon motion made by Mr. McMahon, <br />seconded by Mr. Mullen and carried, the information was filed with the Board <br />and will be transmitted, along with the minutes of this meeting, for the Common <br />Council public hearing on the appropriation ordinances. <br />
