REGULAR MEETING <br />SEPTEMBER 12, 1977 <br />0 <br />BID AWARDED - CURB IMPROVEMENTS, CONTRACT II <br />The Board received a report from John E. Leszczynski, Manager of <br />the Bureau of Public Construction, that the only bid received for <br />the Curb Improvements, Contract II from Rieth-Riley Construction <br />Company, Inc. had been reviewed and he recommended it be accepted. <br />The Bid is in the amount of $18,293.50 and covers curb replacement <br />on Marion Street, from Main Street to the first alley east, and <br />on Riverside Drive, from Lafayette to Michigan. Upon motion made <br />by Mr. McMahon, seconded by Mr. Mullen and carried, the Board <br />accepted the recommendation to award the bid to Rieth Riley Construction <br />Company for a total bid price of $18,293.50. <br />BID AWARDED - EXTENSION OF STREETS, AIRPORT INDUSTRIAL PARK <br />John E. Leszczynski, Manager of the Bureau of Public Construction, <br />submitted a report to the Board indicating that the Department of <br />Engineering reviewed the bids submitted for Airport Industrial Park, <br />Phase III, Contract II, and Phase IV, Division E, and recommends <br />that both contracts be awarded to Arco Engineering Construction <br />Company, the low bidder, at a combined bid price of $222, 192.98. <br />Howard Bessiere of the Industrial Foundation was present and advised <br />the Board that the bids were delivered to the HUD Chicago Office. <br />on Friday and verbal approval was received, although the written <br />confirmation has not been received as yet. Mr. Mullen inquired <br />about the funding for the project and Mr. Bessier noted the funding <br />would come 50% from the Economic Development Administration and <br />50% from the Industrial Foundation. There are no city funds involved. <br />Upon motion made by Mr. McMahon, seconded by Mr. Brunner and carried <br />the Board awarded the bid to Arco Engineering Construction Company <br />at a combined bid price of $222,192.98, subject to approval of the <br />funding. <br />BID ADVERTISING APPROVED - SALT AND LIQUID CALCIUM CHLORIDE <br />John E. Baumgartner, Assistant Street Commissioner, submitted a <br />request to advertise for bids for salt and liquid calcium chloride <br />for snow and ice control for the Bureau of Streets and requested <br />that bids be received on October 3, 1977. Upon motion made by <br />Mr. McMahon, seconded by Mr. Brunner and carried, the Board approved <br />the bid advertising, with sealed bids to be received on October 3. <br />Mr. Mullen asked that a cost estimate be prepared showing the <br />difference in price between using salt and a mixture of salt and sand. <br />Mr. McMahon will prepare the estimate. <br />REQUEST TO ALLOW PARKING ON BENDIX DRIVE FILED <br />The Board received a request from Simon Brothers to allow parking <br />on North Bend.ix Drive on Saturday, September 24 and Sunday, September <br />25 in conjunction with an "80th Anniversary Show". Upon motion made <br />by Mr. McMahon, seconded by Mr. Mullen and carried, the request <br />was filed and referred to the Bureau of Traffic and Lighting and <br />the Police Department Traffic Detail for review and recommendation. <br />FILING OF PETITION TO VACATE ALLEY - MR. & MRS. ANTHONY BOROS <br />Anthony and Gizella Boros file their petition to vacate the <br />east -west alley running west from Carlisle Street to the north -south <br />alley between Calvert and Delaware Street. Petitioners state the <br />alley is not a through alley in this location and they would like <br />it vacated to use as a private drive. Upon motion made by Mr. McMahon, <br />seconded by Mr. Mullen and carried, the petition was filed and <br />referred to the Bureau of Design and Administration for preliminary <br />review and a utility check. <br />
