0
REGULAR MEETING
AUGUST 15, 1977
b. Solicitations may be made at the exits of shopping centers
on shopping center property. However, when this is
anticipated, permission from the owners of the shopping
centers must accompany the request to the Board of Public
Works.
C. Consideration may be given to the use of a separate lane
in the parking area manned by personnel from the sponsoring
organization. The motorist could, if he wished, enter the
lane without obstructing traffic and re-enter the flow of
traffic with relative safety and ease. The location of
such lanes would be in areas where parking presently exists
and only in areas approved by the Bureau of Traffic and
Lighting and the Police Department Traffic Division.
The Board requested that the guidelines be mailed to all groups.
which have requested such fund solicitations at intersections in the
past.
PERMISSION DENIED TO SOLICIT FUNDS AT TWO IRELAND ROAD INTERSECTIONS
The recommendation of the Bureau of Traffic and Lighting to deny the
request of the Muscular Dystrophy Association to collect funds at
the intersections of Ireland and U. S. 31 and Ireland and Miami was
tabled, pending adoption of formal guidelines for such activities.
Mr. McMahon made a motion that the Board accept the recommendation
to deny permission to use the intersections at Ireland and U. S. 31
and Ireland and Miami for the Muscular Dystrophy Association fund
drive. Mr. Brunner seconded the motion. The motion carried.
Mr. McMahon noted that the Association has submitted a list of
alternate intersections for consideration. Upon motion made by
Mr. McMahon, seconded by Mr. Brunner and carried, the Board approved
the alternate list subject to concurrence by the Bureau of Traffic
and Lighting and the Police Department Traffic Detail, with the
stipulation that if no intersections on the alternate list are
acceptable, the Bureau of Traffic and Lighting and the Police Department
will work out acceptable sites with the representatives of the
Muscular Dystrophy Association.
There being no further business to come before the Board, upon
motion made by Mr. McMahon, seconded by Mr. Brunner and carried,
the meeting adjourned at 10:05 a.m.
f!
