REGULAR MEETING AUGUST 1, 1977 <br />REQUEST TO DISPLAY FIRE FIGHTING EQUIPMENT AT 4-H FAIR APPROVED <br />Chief Oscar Van Wiele requested permission from the Board to <br />display fire fighting equipment at the 4-H Fair. Chief Mirocha <br />said one rig per day would be sent to the fair. Upon motion <br />made by Mr. McMahon, seconded by Mr. Brunner and carried, the <br />request was approved. <br />APPROVAL OF CONTRACT FOR R & S 68, MAPLE LANE STORM SEWER PROJECT <br />The contract with H. DeWulf Mechanical Contractor, Inc. for <br />R & S 68, the Maple Lane Storm Sewer, in accordance with the <br />bid accepted by the Board, was submitted to the Board along with the <br />Performance and Labor and Materials Payment Bonds. The contract is <br />in the amount of $218,712.50. Upon motion made by Mr. McMahon, <br />seconded by Mr. Brunner and carried, the contract was approved and <br />the bonds were filed with the Board. <br />TITLE SHEET SIGNED AND BID ADVERTISING APPROVED - WESTERN AVENUE PARKING <br />John Leszczynski, Manager of the Bureau of Public Construction, <br />submitted to the Board the title sheet approving the plans for the <br />Western Avenue off-street parking project and a request that the <br />Board approve the title sheet and authorize advertising for bids. <br />The project involves the reconstruction of Bendix Drive, Camden <br />Street, Lake Street and Kentucky Street ir, the one-half block <br />length north of Western Avenue. Upon motion made by Mr. McMahon, <br />seconded by Mr. Brunner and carried, the title sheet was approved <br />and bid advertising authorized. <br />BID ADVERTISING APPROVED - CURB REPAIR, MARION STREET AND RIVERSIDE DRIVE <br />John Leszczynski, Manager of the Bureau of Public Construction, <br />requested that the Board approve advertising for bids for the <br />repair of curbs on Marion Street from Main Street to the first alley <br />east on the south side of Marion, and on Riverside Drive, from <br />Lafayette Boulevard to Michigan Street. He noted that, due to numerous <br />repaving projects, the amount of curb exposure has decreased to a point <br />of one inch or less, causing problems with drainage control. Plans <br />and specifications for the project have been prepared and Community <br />Development funds will be used. Upon motion made by Mr. McMahon, <br />seconded by Mr. Mullen and carried, the Board approved the request. <br />BID ADVERTISING APPROVED - CURB REPAIR, VARIOUS STREETS <br />John Leszczynski, Manager of the Bureau of Public Construction, <br />requested that the Board approve advertising for bids for curb <br />replacement on Clayton Drive, from Miami to Echo, on Coral Drive, <br />from Byron Drive 1500 feet south, on St. Joseph Street, from Klinger <br />to Jennings, and at the intersection of Klinger and Addision. <br />He noted that the curbs have deteriorated to a point beyond repair. <br />Plans have been prepared and the appropriation has been approved. <br />Upon motion made by Mr. McMahon, seconded by Mr. Mullen and carried, <br />the Board approved the request. <br />RECOMMENDATION ON SEWER ASSESSMENT POLICY TABLED FOR REVIEW <br />David A. Wells, Manager of the Bureau of Design and Administration, <br />submitted to the Board the following memorandum: <br />"This memo is the result of a need for review of sewer <br />assessment policy. <br />Background <br />A sewer system was proposed for an area along Riverside Drive. <br />About 15 homes were involved. Primarily due to the costs of <br />
