REGULAR MEETING MAY 31, 1977 <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works was convened at 9:30 a.m. <br />on Tuesday, flay 31, 1977 by President Patrick M. McMahon, with Mr. McMahon, <br />fir. Brunner and Mr. Mullen present. Deputy City Attorney Georgia C. Luks <br />was also present. <br />MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING APPROVED <br />Mr. Brunner reported that the minutes of the May 23 meeting had been reviewed <br />and he made a motion that they be approved as submitted. Mr. McMahon <br />seconded the motion and it carried. <br />PUBLIC HEARING - VACATION RESOLUTION NO. 3441 <br />This being the date set, hearing was held on Vacation Resolution No. 3441 <br />for the vacation of the east -west alley between South Street and Bronson Street, <br />from the east right-of-way line of Michigan Street east to the west right-of-way <br />line of the north -south alley, also from the east right-of-way line of the <br />north -south alley east to the west right-of-way line of St. Joseph Street. <br />The Clerk tendered proofs of publication of notice in the South Bend Tribune <br />and in the Tri-County News which were found to be sufficient. Jack C. Dunfee, <br />Jr., Attorney, was present to represent the petitioners, Ben Feferman Motor <br />Sales. Mr. Dunfee displayed photographs and a drawing of the proposed vacated <br />property. He noted that the petitioners own all but one lot in the area displayed. <br />For security reasons and to prevent vandalism, the petitioner would like to <br />construct fences across the vacated alleyway. Mr. Dunfee noted that the Area <br />Plan Commission voted unanimously to recommend the petition favorably to the <br />Board. There were no remonstrators present and no written remonstrances were <br />filed with the Board. Mr. McMahon made a motion that the Vacation Resolution <br />be confirmed and referred to the Division of Engineering for preparation of the <br />Assessment Roll. Mr. Mullen seconded the motion and it carried. <br />APPROVAL OF LEASE WITH COUNTY COMMISSIONERS FOR TENTH _FLOOR SPACE <br />Elroy Kelzenberg, Director of Manpower and Training, submitted to the Board a <br />lease with the County Commissioners for use of loth floor office space by CETA. <br />The lease calls for a monthly rentaly payment of $1750. Deputy City Attorney <br />Georgia Luks advised the Board that she had reviewed the lease and it was in <br />order. The lease has been executed by the County Commissioners. Upon motion <br />made by Mr. McMahon, seconded by Mr. Brunner and carried, the Board approved <br />the lease agreement. <br />BID AWARDED CONDITIONALLY - ANIMAL CONTROL VAN <br />James Meehan, Manager of the Bureau of Vehicle Maintenance, reported to the <br />Board that the bids received for a van for the animal control project had been <br />reviewed with Ted Latkowski, Environmental Protection Officer, and they. <br />were recommending acceptance of the bid of Harold Medow of $3,201.75, as being <br />the low bid within the specifications. Upon motion made by Mr. McMahon, <br />seconded by fir. Brunner and carried, the Board awarded the bid to Harold <br />Medow, subject to approval of the funding. <br />BID AWARDED - TIRE REPAIRS FOR CITY VEHICLES <br />James fieehan, Manager of the Bureau of Vehicle Maintenance, reported that the <br />single bid received for tire repairs from the Singer General Tire Company <br />had been reviewed. Mr. Meehan recommended that the bid be accepted, noting <br />that it met specifications and there was no increase in price over last year's <br />contract. Upon motion made by Mr. McMahon, seconded by Mr. Mullen and carried, <br />the Board awarded the bid for tire repairs for city vehicles to the Singer <br />General Tire Company on the low and only bid submitted and requested that the <br />Legal Department prepare a contract for execution. <br />BID AWARDED CONDITIONALLY - STREET DEPARTMENT VEHICLES <br />Patrick M. McMahon, Director of Public Works, reported to the Board that the <br />bids received for various vehicles for the Street Department had been reviewed <br />and he made the following recommendation for award, subject to approval of the <br />fund appropriation: <br />
