REGULAR MEETING MAY 23, 1977 A regular meeting of the Board of Public [corks was convened at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, May 23, 1977 by President Patrick McMahon with Mr. McMahon, Mr. Brunner and Mr. Mullen present. Deputy City Attorney Georgia C. Luks was also present. MINUTES OF PREVIOUS IIEE^1I14GS APPROVED Mr. Mullen reported that the minutes of the May 16 meeting of the Board had been reviewed and he made a motion that they be approved as submitted. Mr. McMahon seconded the motion and it carried. Mr. McMahon noted that a special meeting was convened on May 17 to act on the request of the American Cancer Society for a fund solicitation. He made a motion that the minutes of the special meeting be approved as submitted. Mr. Brunner seconded the motion and it carried. BIDS REJECTED A14D RE -ADVERTISING APPROVED FOR CENTURY CENTER SEATING Mr. McMahon noted that a recommendation to award a bid for fixed seating for Century Center was tabled by the Board last week for further review. After discussion with the other Board members, Mr. McMahon said, he would now move that the Board reject all bids and readvertise for for fixed seating on May 27 and June 3, with bids to be received on June 6. He noted that the reason for this action was there was some question on the part of two bidders as to the exact number of seats to be bid upon. In response to questioning, Mr. McMahon said the number of seats to be bid is 882 and the budgeted amount for the purchase is $77,000. Since there is a substantial amount of money involved, it was felt that bids should be readvertised. Mr. Brunner seconded the motion and it carried. Mr. McMahon was asked if this readvertising would delay the opening of Century Center. He replied that it should not, but the time schedule is somewhat tight and it would be difficult to say for sure. OPENING OF BIDS - CONSTRUCTION OF JOHNSON STREET SEWERS This was the date set for receiving bids for the Johnson Street Storm and Sanitary Sewer Project. The Clerk tendered proofs of publication of notice in the South Bend Tribune and the Tri-County News which were found to be sufficient. The following bids were opened and publicly read: Dye Plurlbing & Heating Company Bid was signed by Charles T. Dye, non -collusion affidavit was in order and a 5% bid bond was submitted. Bid - $274,033.30 Marion Hamilton & Son Bid - $235,889.00 Woodruff & Sons Bid - $263,610.60 Loitz Brothers Construction Co. Bid - $258,188.90 Bid was signed by Clifford Hamilton, non -collusion affidavit was in order and a 5% bid bond was submitted. Bid was signed by Gordon D. Booz, non -collusion affidavit was in order and a 5% bid bond was submitted. Bid was signed by Lawrence Loitz, non -collusion affidavit was in order and a 5% bid bond was submitted.
