REGULAR MEETING APRIL 25, 1977 <br />ADVERTISING APPROVED - PUBLIC.HEARING ON REVENUE SHARING <br />APPROPRIATION <br />Copies of an agreerent between the City of South Bend and <br />CANCO (Child Abuse and Neglect Coordinating Organization) <br />were submitted to the Board by City Controller Peter H. Mullen <br />with the request that the Board schedule a public hearing on <br />the appropriation ordinance for this agreement on May 9. An <br />ordinance for this appropriation will be filed with the <br />Common Council for public hearing by that body on May 23. The <br />amount of the Agreement is $10,000 and it is Project FA-131. <br />Upon motion glade by Mr. McMahon, seconded by Mr. Mullen and <br />carried, the Board directed that the Clerk advertise the public <br />hearing on the appropriation to be held on May 9, 1977 and that <br />senior citizen's groups be notified of the hearing. <br />PElTITION FOR STREET LIGHTS FILED <br />Councilman Roger Parent submitted to the Board a petition signed <br />by residents of Angela Boulevard requesting that additional <br />street lights be installed on Angela Boulevard, from Michigan <br />Street to Notre Dame Avenue. It was noted that the residents <br />would prefer boulevard lights with concrete posts, matching existing <br />lights in the area if new lights can be installed. Upon emotion <br />made by Mr. McMahon, seconded by Mr. Mullen and carried, the petition <br />was filed and referred to the Bureau of Traffic and Lighting for <br />review and recommendation. <br />PURCHASE AGREEMENT APPROVED - SALE OF 524 S. FELLOWS <br />Deputy City Attorney Georgia Luks prepared a purchase agreement <br />for the city -owned lot at 524 S. Fellows to James Fenters for a <br />purchase price of $389.00, in accordance with the offering price <br />established for the lot. Mr. Fenters has signed the agreement and <br />it is now submitted to the Board for approval. Upon motion made by <br />Mr. McMahon, seconded by Mr. Brunner and carried, the Board approved <br />the purchase agreement and referred it to the Legal Department for <br />preparation of the deed. <br />FILING OF LETTER FROM SALVATION ARMY RE: RECYCLING. <br />The Board received a letter from the Salvation Army regarding the <br />lack of any recycling outlet in the City for glass collected. <br />The organization is conducting an anti -litter campaign, encouraging <br />the collection of debris, cans and glass but feels that the glass <br />should' be recycled rather than dumped. They asked for any <br />suggestions from the City. There was a discussion regarding this <br />matter and it was noted that, at the present time, the only place <br />for glass to be taken is to the landfill. Mr. McMahon made a motion <br />that the letter be filed and Mr. Laub be informed that the City is <br />aware of the value of recycling programs but at the present time <br />there is no recycling center for glass. Mr. Brunner seconded the <br />motion and suggested this matter might be reviewed in the future <br />if funding were available. The motion carried. . <br />BLOCK PARTY REQUEST FILED - SPECIAL OLYMPIC TENNIS TOURNAMENT <br />The Board received a request from Susan M. Mueller for permission <br />to hold a Block Party on Saturday, June 4 on Sunnyside Avenue <br />between East Wayne South and East Wayne North, from 5:30 p.m. until <br />11:00 p.m. Rain date for the event is June 11. Upon motion made by <br />Mr. McMahon, seconded by Mr. Brunner and carried,the request was <br />filed and referred to the Bureau of Traffic and Lighting for review <br />and coordination with the Police Departnent. <br />
