REGULAR MEETING <br />AUGUST 9. 1982 <br />The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works was convened at <br />9:30 a.m., on Monday, August 9, 1982, by President John E. <br />Leszczynski, with Mr,. Leszczynski, Mr. Richard L. Hill and Mr. <br />Joseph E. Kernan present. Also present was Assistant City Attorney <br />Carolyn Pfotenhauer <br />MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING APPROVED <br />Upon a motion made by Mr. Kernan, seconded by Mr. Leszczynski and <br />carried, the minutes of the August 2, 1982, regular meeting of <br />the Board were approved as submitted. <br />RESULTS OF CITY VEHICLE AUCTION HELD ON JULY 31, 1982 <br />Mr. Leszczynski announced that the city's public auction held on <br />July 31, 1982, netted a total of $11,390.00 for the sale of 57 <br />obsolete city vehicles and light trucks. He thanked the Clerk <br />of the Board and Mr. Sean Watt, Director of the Division of <br />Transportation,md Lieutenant Cloyde Coffman who served as <br />auctioneer, for their efforts in preparing for and conducting <br />the auction. <br />OPENING OF BIDS - CONSTRUCTION OF SALT STORAGE FACILITY <br />This was the date set for receiving sealed bids for the construction <br />of a salt storage facility at the Municipal Services Facility site. <br />The Clerk tendered proofs of publication of notice in the South <br />Bend Tribune and the Tri-County News which were found to be <br />sufficient. The following bids were opened and publicly read: <br />Harry H. Verkler Contractor, Inc <br />645 Wilber Street <br />South Bend, Indiana <br />Bid was signed by Garold R. <br />Benjamin, non -collusion <br />affidavit was in order, and a <br />5% bid bond was submitted. <br />$123,130.00 Alternate: (Spirex Method) $212,548.00 <br />Horrall Harrington <br />613 Berlin Road <br />Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania 15221 <br />$112,000.00 <br />Bid was signed by Horrall <br />Harrington, non -collusion <br />affidavit was in order, and a <br />5% bid bond was submitted. <br />Mr. Leszczynski stated that the engineer's estimate for the above <br />project was $115,000.00. Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, <br />seconded by Mr. Hill and carried, the above bids were referred <br />to Mr. Sean Watt, Director of the Division of Transportation, <br />for review and recommendation. <br />OPENING OF BIDS - CONCRETE PAVEMENT REPAIRS <br />This was the date set for receiving sealed bids for concrete <br />pavement repairs at various locations throughout the city. The <br />Clerk tendered proofs of publication of notice in the South Bend <br />Tribune and the Tri-County News which were found to be sufficient. <br />The following bids were opened and publicly read: <br />Batteast Construction Company <br />430 East LaSalle Avenue <br />South Bend, Indiana 46617 <br />$228,228.97 <br />Bid was signed by Robert V. <br />Batteast, non -collusion <br />affidavit was in order, and a <br />5% bid bond was submitted. <br />
