322
REGULAR MEETING JUNE 14, 1982
felt the intersection was an extremely dangerous one especially
in view of the close proximity of Marshall School. Mr. Leszczynski
stated that the four-way stop had been installed last year when
construction work was being done on Ironwood Drive and a detour
had re-routed traffic down Springbrook, and the traffic control
should have reverted back to the two-way stop when construction
was completed but nothing had been done until just two months
ago. He assured Mr. Hill that the Bureau of Traffic and
Lighting and the Police Traffic Division would review the matter
and report back to the Board for action in the very immediate
future, and he thanked Mr. Hill and and the other residents
for their concern in bringing this matter to the attention of
the Board. Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by
Mr. Hill and carried, the petition was referred to the Bureau
of Traffic and Lighting and the Police Traffic Division for
review and recommendation..
REQUEST FOR ROAD PUNS - ST. JOSEPH MEDICAL CENTER
Mr. Dean Reinke, Sports Medicine Director for St. Joseph's
Medical Center, requested approval of a road run to be held on
July 11, 1982, utilizing the Rum Village road route starting at.
9:00 a.m. He also requested approval of another run to be held
on August 7_, 1982, starting at 8:00 a.m., utilizing the route
approved for the Blood Donor's Run which started and ended at
Leeper Park and used Riverside Drive. Mr. Hill and Mr.
Leszczynski commented that a six-month. time period is required
on road runs of this type in order to provide and schedule police
manpower and make necessary arrangements with the Bureau of Traffic
and Lighting for barricades and street closures and temporary
traffic control devices, and less than one month remained until
the requested date of July 11, 1982. Mr. Leszczynski also pointed
out that such short notice often causes problems when other
activities and events were scheduled on the same dates. The
Clerk was directed to advise Mr. Reinke of the Board's require-
ments when requesting approval of road runs. Upon a motion made
by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Hill and carried, the request
was referred to the Bureau of Traffic and Lighting and the Police
Traffic Division for review and recommendation.
REQUESTS FOR BLOCK PARTIES REFERRED
A request was received from Mrs. Linda Johnson, 1015 West Oak
Street, for permission to conduct a'block party in the 1000 and
1100 blocks of West Oak Street between Sherman and Allen on
Sunday, July 4, 1982, starting at 8:00 a.m. and ending at
8:00 p.m. A similar request was received from John Hager,
133 Wakewa Avenue, for a block party on Marquette and Wakewa between
Iroquois and Lafayette on Monday, July 5, 1982, from 3:00 p.m. to
7:00 p.m. Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mr.
Hill and carried, the requests were referred to the Bureau of
Traffic and Lighting for review and recommendation.
APPROVE BLOCK PARTIES
A request for a block party on Hastings Street just east of
Ironwood to the first north -south alley was received from
Jack Bowman for Sunday, June 20, 1982, starting at 7:00 a.m.
to 10:00 p.m. In view of the lateness of the request and the
fact that the Board would not be meeting again before that date,
upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Hill and
carried, the request was approved subject to any recommendations
of the Bureau of Traffic and Lighting relative to the closure.
Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Hill and
carried, the block party request for the 800 and 900 blocks of
Bryan Street for June 26, 1982, starting at 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.,
as requested by Kathleen Compton, 822 Bryan Street, was approved
subject to the maintenance of a 12-foot clear and unobstructed lane
at either curb or down the center of the street.
