303 <br />REGULAR MEETING MAY 24, 1982 <br />APPROVE STATE HIGHWAY COMMISSION ACTION - TRAFFIC <br />PREFERENTIALITY (U.S. 33 AND TWYCKENHAM DRIVE') <br />Mr: Leszczynski explained that the Bureau of Traffic and Light- <br />ing and the Indiana Department of Highways recommended the <br />establishment of preferentiality at the intersection of U.S. 33 <br />and Twyckenham Drive to flash red to all approaches in the <br />event of an emergency flashing at said intersection. Upon a <br />motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Kernan and <br />carried, the request was approved. <br />APPROVE ETHNIC FESTIVAL, SPECIAL ATTRACTIONS AND FOOD AND CRAFT BOOTHS <br />Ms. Mikki Dobski, City Events Coordinator, presented to the Board° <br />numerous food and craft booth applications for participation in <br />the 1982 Ethnic Festival to be held July 3 and 4, 1982, from <br />11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on River Bend Plaza. Along with the <br />traditional food and craft booths, Ms. Dobski also requested <br />the Board's permission to conduct the following events: <br />- Dunk Tank sponsored by S. B. Jaycees - Ms. Dobski <br />stated that this event, which has been a part of <br />(� the festival for a couple years,°would be <br />conducted both days. <br />- Beer Case Stacking Contest for both days -,Ms. <br />Dobski explained that the drinking of beer would <br />not be allowed and that the contest would consist <br />of stacking six-packs to be supplied by a local <br />beverage company within a specified time period. <br />She added -that chances would be sold at 50 cents <br />or a dollar and all proceeds would go to the <br />Muscular Dystrophy Association. <br />Hot Air Balloon Race - Ms. Dobski stated that 12 <br />participants would be involved and the Board had <br />already approved traffic control for the race <br />which would be held starting at 6:00 p.m, on <br />either Saturday or Sunday, weather permitting. <br />South Bend Symphony Concert on the Morris Civic <br />Auditorium Green - Ms. Dobski stated that Tower <br />Federal Savings and Loan was sponsoring the <br />concert in conjunction with its 100th birthday <br />to be -held on Sunday evening at 6:30 p.m. <br />Paul Boehm 5-Mile Race - Ms. Dobski stated that <br />Board approval had already been given for the <br />race to be held on Sunday, July 4th.. She <br />encouraged the Board members and the public to <br />participate. <br />In addition to the above events, the following applications for <br />food and craft booths were submitted for Board approval: <br />Food Booths Craft Booths <br />1.
