MEETING <br />MAY 17,1982 <br />1 <br />APPROVE HOPE CHAPEL CHURCH OF GOD ANNUAL PARADE <br />A favorable recommendation was submitted by the Bureau of Traffic <br />and Lighting concerning the request of the Hope Chapel Church of <br />God for permission to hold its annual bible school parade on <br />Saturday, June 12, 1982, starting at 1:00 p.m., utilizing the. - <br />neighborhood streets bounded by Vernon: and Marine, Indiana and <br />Ewing. Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. <br />Hill and carried, the recommendation was approved, subject to <br />the filing of the appropriate certificate of insurance. <br />APPROVE BROADWAY CHRISTIAN PARISH ROAD RACE <br />Following a review of the request of the Broadway Christian <br />Parish Human Race scheduled for Saturday, October 23, 1982, <br />Mr. Ralph J. Wadzinski, Manager of the Bureau of Traffic and <br />Lighting,` recommended approval utilizing Broadway to Franklin; <br />to Ewing; to Gertrude; to Chippewa; to Main Street; to Ewing <br />and on Rum Village Park. Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, <br />seconded by Mr. Hill and carried, the recommendation was approved, <br />subject to the filing of the appropriate certificate of insurance. <br />APPROVE WEST SIDE MEMORIAL DAY PARADE <br />The Bureau of Traffic and Lighting recommended approval of the <br />request of the West Side Memorial Day Committee for permission <br />to conduct the Memorial Day Parade on May 31, 1982, starting at <br />8:30 a.m, on Olive Street to Ford; Ford to Lombardy; Lombardy <br />to Huron and the point of disbursement. It was recommended <br />that Olive Street between Huron and Ford, Huron between Olive <br />and Phillipa, and Grace between Meade and Olive be used for a <br />marshalling area and the installation of temporary "no parking" <br />signs be accomplished to avoid potential parking problems. A <br />further recommendation of the.Bureau of Traffic and Lighting <br />was the posting of certain sections of Western Avenue and <br />Maple Street in and around Haller's Post with "no parking" <br />signs to accommodate buses, etc. Upon a motion made by Mr. <br />Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Hill and carried, the recommendations <br />were approved. It was noted that the appropriate certificate of <br />insurance was in order and had been filed with the Board. <br />APPROVE PEACE SABBATH WALK - JUSTICE AND PEACE CENTER/ <br />UNITED RELIGIOUS COMMUNITY <br />Mr. Ralph J. Wadzinski, Manager of the Bureau of Traffic and <br />Lighting, recommended Board approval of the request of the <br />Justice and Peace Center and the United Religious Community <br />to hold a walk on Sunday, May 30, 1982, commencing at 2:00 p.m., <br />from the First Christian Church at Jefferson and Eddy, westerly <br />on Jefferson to St. Joseph, to LaSalle, to Main to the First <br />United Methodist Church. It was noted that the group intended <br />to use the city sidewalks and obey all traffic signals. Upon <br />a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded.by Mr. Hill and <br />carried, the request was approved. <br />APPROVE BALLOON RACE- JULY 4TH FESTIVITIES <br />Mr. Ralph J. Wadzinski, Manager of the Bureau of Traffic and <br />Lighting, recommended the closing of Columbia Street from Monroe <br />to Western in conjunction with a balloon race to be held on July <br />4th as part of the Ethnic Festival activities. It was noted that <br />the race would begin at 4:30 p.m. and end approximately 6,00 p.m. <br />Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Hill and <br />carried, the closing was approved. <br />APPROVE PAUL BOEHM MARATHON - JULY 4TH <br />The Bureau of Traffic and Lighting recommended favorably the <br />request of the South Bend Recreation Department for the Paul <br />Boehm Marathon to be held in conjunction with the 4th of July <br />festivities in the downtown area.
