2'74 <br />REGULAR MEETING <br />APRIL 26, 1982 <br />APPROVE USE OF PUBLIC BUILDINGS FOR ELECTION DAY PURPOSES <br />A request was received from C. J. Pajakowski, Chairman of the St. <br />Joseph County Democratic Central Committee, for permission to use <br />the following public buildings for voting purposes on Primary <br />Election Day, May 4, 1982: <br />Fire Station No. 2 - 110 East Marion <br />Fire Station No. 3 - 1805 McKinley Avenue <br />Fire Station No. 5 - 2221 Prairie Avenue <br />Fire Station No. 6 - 4302 Western Avenue <br />Fire Station No. 7 - 1616 Portage Avenue <br />Fire Station No. 9 - 2520 Mishawaka Avenue <br />Fire Station No.10 - 308 West Ireland Road <br />Potawatomi Greenhouse - 2015 Mishawaka Avenue <br />Pinhook Pavilion - 2801 Riverside Drive <br />Mr. Leszczynski noted that approval of the Potawatomi Greenhouse <br />and Pinhook Pavilion had been given by the Park Board. Upon a <br />motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Kernan and <br />carried, the request was approved. <br />APPROVE GARAGE SALE - COLFAX STREET GARAGE <br />Ms. Mikki Dobski, City Events Coordinator, requested permission to <br />again hold the community -wide World's Largest Garage Sale on <br />Saturday, June 12, 1982, in the Colfax Parking Garage, starting at <br />9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. She requested use of the entire garage for <br />the sale and the banning of any parking in the garage during the <br />sale hours. As in the past, the Ardmore Lions' Club would provide <br />concession stands and would be required to furnish the necessary <br />insurance certificate and Health Department permit. Ms. Dobski <br />stated that, in the past, problems have been encountered with <br />traffic control in the area of the garage because of the large <br />turnout, and the Police Department had to be called to direct <br />traffic. She asked that this year the department provide the <br />necessary officers to man the garage entrance from 6:00 a.m. to <br />8:00 a.m. and from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Mr. Hill advised Ms. <br />Dobski that he would discuss the matter of traffic control with <br />Captain Thomas Gargis, Police Traffic Division. Upon a motion <br />made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Hill and carried, the <br />request was approved. <br />REQUEST TO HOLD CHET WAGGONER LITTLE LEAGUE PARADE MAY 22, 1982 <br />A request was received from Daniel C. Dutrieux, representative of <br />the Chet Waggoner Little League, for permission to hold an opening <br />day parade on May 22, 1982, utilizing the following route: Starting <br />from the Knights of Columbus parking lot at 815 North Michigan <br />Street to Park Lane west to LaFayette Boulevard; Lafayette Boulevard <br />to Navarre; west on Navarre to Portage; north on Portage to Boland; <br />east on Boland Drive to Riverside Drive; and north on Riverside <br />Drive to the park entrance. It was noted that a police escort was <br />requested, and the time of the parade was 8:15 a..m. Upon a motion <br />made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Hill and carried, the request <br />was referred to the Bureau of Traffic and Lighting and the Police <br />Traffic Division for review and recommendation. <br />APPROVE TITLE SHEET AND REQUEST TO ADVERTISE FOR BIDS - <br />CHAPIN AND WESTERN STREET IMPROVEMENTS <br />Mr. Neil Shanahan, Manager of the Bureau of Public Construction, <br />requested permission to cause legal advertising for the receipt of <br />bids for the construction of radius improvements at the northwest <br />corner of Chapin and Western. Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, <br />seconded by Mr. Hill and carried, the title sheet and request to <br />advertise for bids were approved, with a date of May 17, 1982, <br />established for the purpose of receiving bids. <br />
